The Lord had driven out other nations to make room for Israel. But they followed the evil practices of those nations. They also followed the practices that the kings of Israel had started.

“你到了耶和華你的神要賜給你的那地的時候，那些外族人可厭可惡的事，你不可學習去行。

你們從前住過的埃及地，那裡的居民的行為，你們不可隨從；我要領你們到的迦南地，那裡的居民的行為，你們也不可仿效。你們不可跟隨他們的風俗行。

反倒跟隨以色列諸王的道路，甚至焚燒他的兒子為祭，好像耶和華在以色列人面前驅逐的外族人所行可憎惡的事，

以法蓮受欺壓，被審判壓碎；因為他們樂意隨從人的命令。

亞哈斯王到大馬士革會見亞述王提革拉．毗列色，看見在大馬士革的祭壇。亞哈斯王就派人把祭壇的圖樣、結構和詳盡的做法送到烏利亞祭司那裡。

你跟隨了暗利的規例和亞哈家一切所行的，順從了他們的計謀；因此，我必使你荒涼，使你（“你”原文作“她”）的居民被嗤笑；你們也必擔當我民的羞辱。

王打定了主意，就做了兩個金牛犢，對眾民說：“以色列人哪，你們上耶路撒冷去實在夠了。看哪，這是你們的神，就是從埃及地領你們上來的那位。”

耶和華這樣說：“你們不要學習列國的行徑，列國因天象驚惶，你們卻不要因這些驚惶。

他按照耶和華在以色列人面前趕走的亞摩利人所行的一切，跟從偶像。行了非常可憎的事。

（因為在你們以前住在那地的人，行了這一切可憎的事，就玷污了自己）；免得你們玷污那地，那地就把你們吐出去，像吐出了在你們以前的各民族一樣。無論甚麼人，行了一件這些可憎的事，必從自己的族人中被剪除。所以你們要謹守我的吩咐，免得你們行那些可憎的風俗，就是你們以前的人所行的，玷污了自己。我是耶和華你們的神。”

他行耶和華看為惡的事，好像耶和華在以色列人面前趕走的民族所行的可憎惡的事。

反而和外族人混居雜處，學習他們的風俗習慣。

亞哈犯了尼八的兒子耶羅波安所犯的罪，還以為是小事。他又娶了西頓王謁巴力的女兒耶洗別作妻子，去服事巴力，敬拜巴力。他在撒瑪利亞建築巴力廟，又在廟裡為巴力立了一座祭壇。亞哈又做了亞舍拉，亞哈所行的，惹耶和華以色列的神發怒，比他以前所有的以色列王更厲害。

連猶大人也不持守耶和華他們的神的吩咐，隨從以色列人所行的習俗。

那時，你要自己謹慎，不可在他們從你的面前被消滅以後，隨從他們的惡俗而陷入網羅，也不可求問他們的神，說：‘這些國的人怎樣事奉他們的神，我也要這樣行。’你不可向耶和華你的神這樣行，因為耶和華恨惡的一切可厭惡的事，他們都向他們的神行了，甚至把自己的兒女用火焚燒，獻給他們的神。
