Even while these people were worshiping the Lord, they were serving their idols. To this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their ancestors did.

They worshiped the Lord. But at the same time, they served the statues of their gods. And to this day their children and grandchildren continue to do what their people before them did.

So these nations feared the Lord and also served their carved images. Their children did likewise, and their children’s children— as their fathers did, so they do to this day.

So while these new residents worshiped the Lord, they also worshiped their idols. And to this day their descendants do the same.

They feared the LORD but also served their idols. Still today, their children and grandchildren continue doing as their ancestors did.

剪除那些在房頂上敬拜天上萬象的，剪除那些敬拜永恆主，指着永恆主來起誓、竟又指着米勒公來起誓的，

『一個人不能做兩個主人的奴僕；因為他若不是厭惡這一個而愛那一個，就是會依附這一個而不顧那一個：你們不能又做上帝的奴僕，又做錢財的奴僕。

以利亞湊近眾民面前，說：『你們猶豫於兩可之間、要到幾時呢？如果永恆主是上帝，你們就應該隨從永恆主；如果巴力是上帝，你們就隨從巴力好啦。』眾民一句話也不回答。

他們也敬畏永恆主，也從他們範圍內的人為自己立邱壇的祭司、在邱壇廟裏為他們獻祭。這樣、永恆主他們也敬畏；他們自己的神他們也服事：從哪一國遷徙來的、就隨哪一國的規矩。

『現在你們要敬畏永恆主，以純全和忠信事奉他，將你們列祖在大河那邊和在埃及所事奉的神除掉，來事奉永恆主。倘若你們以事奉永恆主為不好，那麼你們今日就可以選擇你們所要事奉的：到底是你們列祖在大河那邊所事奉的神呢？還是你們住於其地的亞摩利人的神呢？至於我和我的家呢、我們是必定事奉永恆主的。』人民回答說：『我們絕對不離棄永恆主、去事奉別的神；因為是永恆主我們的上帝、他把我們和我們列祖從埃及地為奴之家領上來的，是他在我們眼前行了那些大神迹的，是他在我們所行的一切路上、又在我們所經過的別族之民中保護了我們的；永恆主又把別族之民、住這地的亞摩利人、都從我們面前趕出；所以我們、也必定事奉永恆主，因為他才是我們的上帝。』約書亞對人民說：『你們不能事奉永恆主；因為他是聖別的上帝；他是忌邪的上帝；他必不赦免你們的過犯罪惡。倘若你們離棄了永恆主，去事奉外族人的神，那麼永恆主在使你們得福之後，就一定轉而降禍與你們、把你們都滅盡。』

我知道你的行為：你也不冷也不熱。我巴不得你是冷或是熱。這樣，你既是溫的、也不熱也不冷、我就要把你從我口中嘔吐出去。

猶大和便雅憫的敵人聽說流亡回來的人為永恆主以色列的上帝建造殿堂，就進前來見所羅巴伯和父系的族長，對他們說：『請讓我們和你們一同建造，因為我們尋問你們的上帝、和你們一樣；自從亞述王以撒哈頓帶我們上這地的日子以來、我們總是祭獻上帝的。』但是所羅巴伯、耶書亞、和其餘以色列的父系族長、卻對他們說：『這為我們的上帝建殿的事是與你們無干的；因為照波斯王古列王所吩咐的、是我們自己要單獨為永恆主以色列之上帝建造的。』
