Even while these people were worshiping the Lord, they were serving their idols. To this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their ancestors did.

They worshiped the Lord. But at the same time, they served the statues of their gods. And to this day their children and grandchildren continue to do what their people before them did.

So these nations feared the Lord and also served their carved images. Their children did likewise, and their children’s children— as their fathers did, so they do to this day.

So while these new residents worshiped the Lord, they also worshiped their idols. And to this day their descendants do the same.

They feared the LORD but also served their idols. Still today, their children and grandchildren continue doing as their ancestors did.

与那些在房顶上敬拜天上万象的，并那些敬拜耶和华指着他起誓，又指着玛勒堪起誓的，

“一个人不能侍奉两个主；不是恶这个、爱那个，就是重这个、轻那个。你们不能又侍奉神，又侍奉玛门。”

以利亚前来对众民说：“你们心持两意要到几时呢？若耶和华是神，就当顺从耶和华；若巴力是神，就当顺从巴力。”众民一言不答。

他们惧怕耶和华，也从他们中间立邱坛的祭司，为他们在有邱坛的殿中献祭。他们又惧怕耶和华，又侍奉自己的神，从何邦迁移，就随何邦的风俗。

“现在你们要敬畏耶和华，诚心实意地侍奉他，将你们列祖在大河那边和在埃及所侍奉的神除掉，去侍奉耶和华。若是你们以侍奉耶和华为不好，今日就可以选择所要侍奉的：是你们列祖在大河那边所侍奉的神呢？是你们所住这地的亚摩利人的神呢？至于我和我家，我们必定侍奉耶和华。”百姓回答说：“我们断不敢离弃耶和华去侍奉别神；因耶和华我们的神曾将我们和我们列祖从埃及地的为奴之家领出来，在我们眼前行了那些大神迹，在我们所行的道上，所经过的诸国，都保护了我们。耶和华又把住此地的亚摩利人都从我们面前赶出去。所以，我们必侍奉耶和华，因为他是我们的神。”约书亚对百姓说：“你们不能侍奉耶和华；因为他是圣洁的神，是忌邪的神，必不赦免你们的过犯罪恶。你们若离弃耶和华去侍奉外邦神，耶和华在降福之后，必转而降祸与你们，把你们灭绝。”

我知道你的行为，你也不冷也不热；我巴不得你或冷或热。你既如温水，也不冷也不热，所以我必从我口中把你吐出去。

犹大和便雅悯的敌人听说被掳归回的人为耶和华以色列的神建造殿宇，就去见所罗巴伯和以色列的族长，对他们说：“请容我们与你们一同建造；因为我们寻求你们的神，与你们一样。自从亚述王以撒哈顿带我们上这地以来，我们常祭祀神。”但所罗巴伯、耶书亚，和其余以色列的族长对他们说：“我们建造神的殿与你们无干，我们自己为耶和华以色列的神协力建造，是照波斯王居鲁士所吩咐的。”
