Even while these people were worshiping the Lord, they were serving their idols. To this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their ancestors did.

They worshiped the Lord. But at the same time, they served the statues of their gods. And to this day their children and grandchildren continue to do what their people before them did.

So these nations feared the Lord and also served their carved images. Their children did likewise, and their children’s children— as their fathers did, so they do to this day.

So while these new residents worshiped the Lord, they also worshiped their idols. And to this day their descendants do the same.

They feared the LORD but also served their idols. Still today, their children and grandchildren continue doing as their ancestors did.

就是那些在房顶上敬拜天上万象的，那些敬拜耶和华，指着他起誓，又指着玛勒公起誓的，

“一个人不能服事两个主人；他若不是恨这个爱那个，就是忠于这个轻视那个。你们不能服事神，又服事金钱﹙“金钱”亚兰文是“玛门”。﹚。

以利亚走近众人说：“你们三心两意，要到几时呢？如果耶和华是神，你们就应当随从耶和华；如果巴力是神，你们就应当随从巴力。”众人一句话也不回答。

他们也惧怕耶和华，所以从他们中间选立邱坛的祭司，替他们在邱坛的庙里献祭。他们既惧怕耶和华，又服事他们的神；从哪个民族掳来的，就按照哪个民族的习俗服事他们的神。

“现在你们要敬畏耶和华，真诚地按着真理事奉他，把你们列祖在大河那边和在埃及事奉的神除掉，去事奉耶和华。如果你们认为事奉耶和华不好，那么今日你们就可以选择你们所要事奉的：是你们列祖在大河那边事奉的神呢，还是你们现在所住亚摩利人之地的神呢？至于我和我家，我们必事奉耶和华。”众民回答：“我们绝对不会离弃耶和华，去事奉别的神；因为耶和华我们的神把我们和我们的列祖，从埃及地为奴的家领出来，并且在我们眼前行了那些伟大的神迹；又在我们所行的一切路上，和我们经过的一切民族中间，他都保护了我们；耶和华又把所有的民族和住在这地的亚摩利人，都从我们面前赶走；所以我们必事奉耶和华，因为他是我们的神。”约书亚对众民说：“你们不能事奉耶和华，因为他是圣洁的神；他是嫉妒的神，他必不赦免你们的过犯和罪恶。如果你们离弃耶和华，去事奉外族人的神，那么在耶和华赐福给你们之后，他必转而降祸与你们，把你们消灭。”

我知道你的行为，你不冷也不热；我巴不得你或冷或热。因为你好像温水，不热也不冷，所以我要把你从我口中吐出去。

犹大和便雅悯的敌人听见被掳回来的人为耶和华以色列的神重建圣殿，就前来见所罗巴伯和众族长，对他们说：“请让我们与你们一起建造吧！因为我们也像你们那样寻求你们的神。自从亚述王以撒哈顿把我们带上这里的日子以来，我们一直向他献祭。”但所罗巴伯、耶书亚和以色列其余的族长对他们说：“你们不能与我们一同建筑神的殿，因为波斯王古列王吩咐我们自己为耶和华以色列的神建殿。”
