But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea was a traitor, for he had sent envoys to So king of Egypt, and he no longer paid tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore Shalmaneser seized him and put him in prison.

But the king of Assyria found treachery in Hoshea, for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up and bound him in prison.

But Hoshea stopped paying the annual tribute and conspired against the king of Assyria by asking King So of Egypt to help him shake free of Assyria’s power. When the king of Assyria discovered this treachery, he seized Hoshea and put him in prison.

永恆主發神諭說：『有禍啊，這些悖逆的兒女！設下計謀，卻不由於我！奠酒結盟，卻不由於我的靈，以致罪上加罪！他們起身下埃及去，並沒有求問我的許可，就要在法老的保護下去逃難，在埃及的蔭庇下去躲避！故此法老的保護必變為你們的慚愧，躲避於埃及的蔭庇下必成為你們的恥辱。因為他的首領雖已在瑣安，他的使者雖抵達了哈內斯，

因為是為了永恆主怒氣發作的緣故，事情在耶路撒冷和猶大才發展到永恆主竟丟掉他們離開自己面前。西底家背叛了巴比倫王。

他從以色列王家後裔中取了一人，叫他發咒起誓、而跟他立約，巴王將國中有勢力的人擄去，使國低微，不能挺起，惟獨守約才得以存立。但他卻背叛了巴王，反而差遣使者往埃及去，要他們給他馬匹和許多兵丁。他哪能順利成功呢？行這樣事的人哪能逃脫呢？違反了盟約哪能逃脫呢？主永恆主發神諭說：我指着永活的我來起誓：巴王立他做王，他竟藐視了發咒起誓的話，違反了巴王跟他所立的約；因此他一定必死在巴比倫、巴王住的地方。敵人倒土堆築了壘要剪滅許多人時，法老雖領了大軍隊大羣眾人也不能在戰陣上跟他周旋呀。他藐視了發咒起誓的話，違犯了盟約；曾經舉手起了誓，還行這一切事，他必不能逃脫。因此主永恆主這麼說：我指着永活的我來起誓，對他所藐視我發咒起誓的話、和他所違犯我立的約、我一定要將這罪還報在他頭上。

猶大王希西家差遣人到拉吉去見亞述王說：『我有罪了；求你離開我而回去；凡你所加於我的處罰、我都要承當。』於是亞述王勒令猶大王希西家要納銀子三百擔，金子三十擔。希西家就把永恆主殿裏和王宮府庫裏所有的銀子都交出。

好向外國人伸冤，向萬族之民施懲罰，好用鎖鍊捆他們的君王，用鐵鐐鎖他們的貴臣，

當約雅敬在位的日子、巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒上來，約雅敬臣服了他三年；然後掉轉背叛他。

又在西底家眼前將他兒子們都宰殺掉，並將西底家一對眼睛都弄瞎了，然後用銅鍊鎖着他，帶到巴比倫去。

有禍啊！那些下埃及去求幫助的！他們依靠馬匹，倚賴車輛，因為很多；他們倚賴馬兵，因為馬兵極強壯，他們卻不仰望以色列之聖者，永恆主、他們竟不求問！其實永恆主有智慧，他會降災禍的；他的話他絕不收回，他卻要起來攻擊那作壞事者的家，攻擊那幫助作孽之人的。埃及人不過是人，並不是神；他們的馬不過是血肉，並不是靈；永恆主一伸手，那幫助人的就絆跌，那受幫助的也必跌倒，二者就同歸於盡。

希西家曾說：『永恆主我們的上帝必援救我們脫離亞述王的手掌』：這希西家不是誘惑了你們，要以饑渴把你們交付於死麼？
