But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea was a traitor, for he had sent envoys to So king of Egypt, and he no longer paid tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore Shalmaneser seized him and put him in prison.

But the king of Assyria found out that Hoshea had turned against him. Hoshea had sent messengers to So, the king of Egypt. Hoshea didn’t send gifts to the king of Assyria anymore. He had been sending them every year. So Shalmaneser grabbed him and put him in prison.

But the king of Assyria found treachery in Hoshea, for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up and bound him in prison.

But Hoshea stopped paying the annual tribute and conspired against the king of Assyria by asking King So of Egypt to help him shake free of Assyria’s power. When the king of Assyria discovered this treachery, he seized Hoshea and put him in prison.

你看，你倚賴埃及這壓傷的蘆葦做的手杖，人若是倚靠它，它必刺入他的手，把手刺傷，埃及王法老對所有倚賴他的人正是這樣。

耶和華說：“這些悖逆的兒女有禍了！他們實行計謀，卻不是出於我的意思，他們結盟，卻不是出於我的靈，以致罪上加罪。他們起程下埃及去，並沒有求問我，卻要在法老的保護下，作避難處，投靠在埃及的蔭庇下。因此，法老的保護必成為你們的羞恥，投靠在埃及的蔭庇下，變成你們的恥辱。他們的領袖雖然已在瑣安，他們的使臣雖然已到達哈內斯，

因為耶和華的怒氣向耶路撒冷和猶大發作，直到他把他們從自己的面前趕走。後來，西底家背叛了巴比倫王。

他從以色列王室後裔中選出一人，與他立約，叫他起誓，並且把國中那些有勢力的人擄去，使國衰微，不能再興盛，唯有謹守條約他才可以繼續存在。可是這人背叛了巴比倫王，差遣使者到埃及去，要得戰馬和大軍。他能亨通嗎？行這樣事的人，怎能逃脫呢？他破壞條約，怎能逃脫呢？我指著我的永生起誓：他藐視了自己所起的誓，背棄了與王所立的約，因此他必死在巴比倫，就是那立他作王的巴比倫王的國家。這是耶和華的宣告。敵人建造圍城的高牆，築起攻城土壘要剪除多人的時候，法老率領大軍和大隊人馬，還是不能幫助他作戰。他藐視誓言，背棄條約；他已宣誓效忠，卻又行了這一切事，所以他必不能逃脫。因此主耶和華這樣說：我指著我的永生起誓：他既然藐視我的誓言，背棄我的約，我必使這罪歸到他的頭上。

猶大王希西家派人往拉吉去見亞述王說：“我有罪了，請你離我回去吧，你們加於我的處分，我必承當。”於是亞述王罰了猶大王希西家九千公斤銀子和九百公斤金子。希西家就把耶和華殿和王宮寶庫內找到的所有金子都給了他。

為要報復列國，懲罰萬民；用鎖鍊捆住他們的君王，用鐵鐐鎖住他們的權貴，

約雅敬在位的時候，巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒來攻打他，約雅敬就臣服他三年，後來卻反悔，背叛他。

他們又在西底家眼前殺了他的眾子，並且把西底家的眼睛弄瞎，然後用銅鍊鎖住他，把他帶到巴比倫去。

那些下埃及求幫助，倚靠馬匹，倚靠眾多戰車，依靠十分強壯的馬兵，卻不仰望以色列的聖者，也不求問耶和華的，有禍了！耶和華是智慧的，他必降下災禍，決不收回自己的話，卻要起來攻擊作惡者之家，又攻擊那些助人作孽的。埃及人是人，並不是神；他們的馬匹是血肉，並不是靈；耶和華一伸手，那幫助人的就絆倒，那受幫助的也必仆倒，並且一同滅亡。

希西家曾對你們說：耶和華我們的神必拯救我們脫離亞述王的手。他不是迷惑你們，使你們因飢渴而死嗎？
