耶和华把约旦河定为我们跟你们吕便和迦得人的边界，你们与耶和华一点关系也没有。’这样，恐怕你们的子孙会使我们的子孙不再敬畏耶和华。

“我要让他们遭受四种祸患——刀杀、狗撕、鸟啄、兽吞。这是耶和华说的。

倘若我使猛兽在那里横行、肆虐，以致那里荒凉、人踪绝迹，

约拿回答说：“我是希伯来人，我敬畏耶和华，祂是创造海洋陆地、掌管诸天的上帝。”

因此，林中的狮子必袭击他们，荒野的豺狼必残害他们，豹子也蹲伏在他们的城外，伺机撕裂出城的人，因为他们罪大恶极，屡屡叛道。

“主耶和华说，‘我要把战祸、饥荒、猛兽和瘟疫这四大刑罚降在耶路撒冷，毁灭人和牲畜。

于是，有一位从撒玛利亚被掳走的祭司回去住在伯特利，教导他们怎样敬拜耶和华。

这位先知在路上遇到一头狮子，被咬死了，尸体倒在路上，驴和狮子都站在尸体旁边。

以利沙转身看着他们，奉耶和华的名咒诅他们。林中随即走出来两只母熊，咬死了其中的四十二个少年。

那位先知就对他说：“既然你不听从耶和华的吩咐，你一离开我，就会被狮子咬死。”那同伴走后，果然遇见狮子，被咬死了。
