何細亞執政第九年，撒瑪利亞淪陷。亞述王把以色列人擄到亞述，安置在哈臘、歌散的哈博河一帶以及瑪代人的各城。

耶和華藉著祂的眾先知和先見警告以色列人和猶大人說：「你們要離開惡道，遵守我的誡命和律例，即我吩咐你們祖先遵守並藉著我的僕人——眾先知傳給你們的律法。」

亞述王把以色列人擄到亞述，將他們安置在哈臘、歌散的哈博河一帶以及瑪代人的城邑裡。這都是因為以色列人沒有聽從他們的上帝耶和華，違背了祂的約，不遵行祂僕人摩西所吩咐的一切。

因為耶羅波安犯罪作孽，使以色列人陷入罪中，耶和華必拋棄以色列。」

於是，耶和華棄絕了以色列全族，使他們飽嚐痛苦，任人宰割，直至把他們從自己眼前趕走。

所以，我要使你們被擄到大馬士革以外的地方。」這是耶和華說的，祂的名字是萬軍之上帝。

因此，耶和華非常憤怒，從祂面前趕走以色列人，只留下猶大一個支派。

耶和華對何西阿說：「給他取名叫耶斯列，因為再過不久，我就要因耶戶家在耶斯列的屠殺而懲罰他們，消滅以色列國。那時，我要在耶斯列平原折斷以色列的弓。」後來，歌蜜又懷孕生了一個女兒。耶和華對何西阿說：「給她取名叫羅·路哈瑪，因為我將不再憐憫以色列家，也不再赦免他們的罪。但我要憐憫猶大家，使他們依靠他們的上帝耶和華得到拯救，而不是依靠戰弓、刀劍、馬匹、騎兵和戰爭。」羅·路哈瑪斷奶後，歌蜜又懷孕生了一個兒子。耶和華說：「給他取名叫羅·阿米，因為以色列人不再是我的子民，我也不再是他們的上帝。」

「所以，我耶和華要使撒瑪利亞淪為荒野的廢墟，成為種葡萄的地方。我要把她的石頭拋進山谷，直到露出她的根基。

上帝的僕人奉耶和華的命令向祭壇喊道：「祭壇啊，祭壇啊，耶和華說，必有一子在大衛家出生，他名叫約西亞。他要在你上面殺死這些獻祭的祭司，在你上面焚燒人的骨頭。」
