亞哈斯王把盆座四面的嵌邊拆下來，把盆從座上挪下來，又將銅海從馱銅海的銅牛上搬下來，放在石板鋪的地上。他為了亞述王的緣故，在耶和華的殿裏移動殿裏為安息日所蓋的遮棚和王從外面進來的入口。

希西家把耶和華殿裏和王宮府庫裏所有的銀子都給了他。那時，猶大王希西家將耶和華殿門上的金子和他自己包在柱子上的金子都刮下來，給了亞述王。

亞述王提革拉‧毗列色來攻擊他，不幫助他，反倒欺負他。亞哈斯從耶和華殿裏和王宮中，以及眾領袖家中取財寶送給亞述王，也無濟於事。

於是亞撒從耶和華殿和王宮的府庫裏拿出金銀來，送給住在大馬士革的亞蘭王便‧哈達，說：

因此，看哪，主必使亞述王和他的威勢如大河翻騰洶湧的水上漲，蓋過他們，必上漲超過一切水道，漲過兩岸，必沖入猶大，漲溢氾濫，直到頸項。他展開翅膀，遮蔽你的全地。以馬內利啊！」

他掘了坑，挖得太深，竟掉在自己所挖的陷阱裏。他的毒害必回到自己頭上，他的殘暴必落到自己的腦袋上。

耶和華必使亞述王臨到你和你的百姓，並你的父家，自從以法蓮脫離猶大的時候，未曾有過這樣的日子。
