亚哈斯王拆掉盆座的镶板，搬走盆，将铜海从铜牛背上搬下来，放在铺石的地上。为了亚述王，他挪走耶和华殿里为安息日而盖的走廊，封闭了王从外面进耶和华殿的入口。

希西迦将耶和华殿里和王宫库房里的所有银子都给了他，又刮下他包在耶和华殿门和门柱上的金子，一并送去。

亚述王提革拉·毗列色来到犹大后，不但不救他，反而压迫他。亚哈斯从耶和华的殿里、王宫和官员家中取财宝送给亚述王，但无济于事。

于是，亚撒收集耶和华殿里和王宫库房里的金银，派人送给住在大马士革的亚兰王便·哈达，说：

我要差来亚述王的军队，使他们像幼发拉底河的洪流一样汹涌而来，淹没一切水道，漫过河岸，席卷犹大，使整个犹大几遭灭顶之灾。他必展开双翼横扫你的土地。”愿上帝与我们同在！

他们挖了陷阱，却自陷其中。他们的恶行临到自己头上，他们的暴力落到自己脑壳上。

“之后，耶和华必让亚述王来攻击你们。这是你全家及你的人民自以色列与犹大分裂以来从未有的日子。
