Menahem exacted this money from Israel. Every wealthy person had to contribute fifty shekels of silver to be given to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria withdrew and stayed in the land no longer.

以色列王比加執政期間，亞述王提革拉·毗列色來犯，奪取了以雲、亞伯·伯·瑪迦、亞挪、基低斯和夏瑣，佔領了基列、加利利及拿弗他利全境，把那裡的居民擄往亞述。

七千隻羊、三千隻駱駝、五百對牛、五百頭母驢及許多僕婢。他在東方人中最富有。

那時，巴西萊已經是八十高齡了。王留在瑪哈念的時候，他曾供應王食物，因為他非常富有。

希西迦王差遣使者去拉吉見亞述王說：「我知罪了，求你退兵！我願意滿足你的任何要求。」亞述王向希西迦索要十噸銀子和一噸金子。希西迦將耶和華殿裡和王宮庫房裡的所有銀子都給了他，又刮下他包在耶和華殿門和門柱上的金子，一併送去。但亞述王派他的元帥、都統和將軍從拉吉率領大軍到耶路撒冷見希西迦。到了耶路撒冷後，他們駐紮在上池的水溝旁、通往漂布場的路上。

亞述王撒縵以色攻打以色列，何細亞納貢稱臣。然而，何細亞差遣使者向埃及王梭求援，不再像往年那樣向亞述王進貢。亞述王發現後，把他抓起來囚在獄中。

為了繳納法老索要的金銀，約雅敬向全國徵稅，按照民眾家產的多少徵收金銀。
