当国家在他手中稳定以后，他就把那些击杀他父王的臣仆杀了。

那时，犹大王希西家把耶和华殿门上和自己包在门柱上的金子，都刮了下来，给了亚述王。

耶和华这样说：“倚靠世人，恃凭肉体为自己的力量，心里偏离耶和华的，这人该受咒诅。

亚哈斯拿耶和华殿里和王宫宝库内找到的金子和银子，送给亚述王作礼物。

他们上去投奔亚述，像一只独行的野驴，以法莲贿买爱人。他们虽然在列国中贿买人，我现在却要招聚他们。他们因着君王和领袖所加的重担，逐渐衰微。

人要把它带到亚述去，作贡物献给那里的大王。以法莲必受羞辱，以色列必因自己的计谋蒙羞。

亚述王撒缦以色上来攻击他，他就臣服于他，并且向他进贡。后来，亚述王发觉何细亚阴谋反叛：他曾派使者去见埃及王梭，并且不再向亚述王献上贡物，像过去每年一样。亚述王就拿住他，把他囚在牢里。

但那受过困苦的，必不再见幽暗。以前神使西布伦和拿弗他利地被轻视，日后却要使它们在沿海之路、约旦河外和外族人的加利利，得着荣耀。（本节在《马索拉文本》为8:23）

犹大王约阿施于是拿出所有的圣物，就是他的祖先犹大王约沙法、约兰和亚哈谢所献的圣物，以及他自己所献的圣物，还有耶和华殿和王宫宝库里所有的金子，送给亚兰王哈薛，哈薛就离开耶路撒冷去了。

以法莲看见自己的疾病，犹大家看见自己的创伤，以法莲就往亚述去，派人去见亚述的大王。可是他却不能医治你们，也不能医好你们的创伤。
