But Jehoash king of Israel sent messengers to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thorn bush that was in Lebanon sent word to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ But a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thorn bush.

以色列王約瞎、語使者曰、利巴嫩有荊棘、謂柏香木云、當以爾女妻我子、猝有獸過、荊棘為其蹂躪。

But Jehoash king of Israel replied to Amaziah king of Judah:“ A thistle in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar in Lebanon,‘ Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ Then a wild beast in Lebanon came along and trampled the thistle underfoot.

But Jehoash, the king of Israel, answered Amaziah, the king of Judah. Jehoash said,“ A thorn bush in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar tree there. The thorn bush said,‘ Give your daughter to be married to my son.’ Then a wild animal in Lebanon came along. It crushed the thorn bush by walking on it.

And Jehoash king of Israel sent word to Amaziah king of Judah,“ A thistle on Lebanon sent to a cedar on Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son for a wife,’ and a wild beast of Lebanon passed by and trampled down the thistle.

But King Jehoash of Israel replied to King Amaziah of Judah with this story:“ Out in the Lebanon mountains, a thistle sent a message to a mighty cedar tree:‘ Give your daughter in marriage to my son.’ But just then a wild animal of Lebanon came by and stepped on the thistle, crushing it!

King Jehoash of Israel sent word to King Amaziah of Judah, saying,“ The thistle in Lebanon once sent a message to the cedar in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son as a wife.’ Then a wild animal in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.

And Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son as wife’; and a wild beast that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.

King Jehoash of Israel sent word to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thistle that was in Lebanon once sent a message to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son as a wife.’ Then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.

And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that[ was] in Lebanon sent to the cedar that[ was] in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that[ was] in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.

King Jehoash of Israel sent this message back to King Amaziah of Judah,“ A thornbush in Lebanon sent this message to a cedar in Lebanon,‘ Give your daughter to my son as a wife.’ Then a wild animal of Lebanon came by and trampled down the thorn.

Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son as wife. Then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by, and trampled down the thistle.

Once the trees went to anoint a king over them, and they said to the olive tree,‘ Reign over us!’But the olive tree said to them,‘ Shall I give up my fatness with which God and mankind are honored, and go to wave over the trees?’Then the trees said to the fig tree,‘ You, come, reign over us!’But the fig tree said to them,‘ Shall I give up my sweetness and my good fruit, and go to wave over the trees?’Then the trees said to the vine,‘ You, come, reign over us!’But the vine said to them,‘ Shall I give up my new wine, which cheers God and mankind, and go to wave over the trees?’Then all the trees said to the bramble,‘ You, come, reign over us!’And the bramble said to the trees,‘ If you really are anointing me as king over you, come and take refuge in my shade; but if not, may fire come out of the bramble and consume the cedars of Lebanon.’

Then I said,“ Oh, Lord God! They are saying of me,‘ Is he not just speaking in riddles?’ ”

When the men of Israel saw that they were in trouble( for the people were hard pressed), then the people kept themselves hidden in caves, in crevices, in cliffs, in crypts, and in pits.

( But from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, And from my infancy I guided her),

Then the Lord sent Nathan to David. And he came to him and said,“ There were two men in a city, the one wealthy and the other poor.The wealthy man had a great many flocks and herds.But the poor man had nothing at all except one little ewe lamb Which he bought and nurtured; And it grew up together with him and his children. It would eat scraps from him and drink from his cup and lie in his lap, And was like a daughter to him.Now a visitor came to the wealthy man, And he could not bring himself to take any animal from his own flock or his own herd, To prepare for the traveler who had come to him; So he took the poor man’s ewe lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”

Then Amaziah dismissed the troops which came to him from Ephraim, to go home; so their anger burned against Judah, and they returned home in fierce anger.Now Amaziah gathered his courage and led his people out, and went to the Valley of Salt, and struck and killed ten thousand of the sons of Seir.The sons of Judah also captured ten thousand alive and brought them to the top of the cliff, and threw them down from the top of the cliff so that they were all dashed to pieces.But the troops whom Amaziah sent back, those not going with him to battle, raided the cities of Judah from Samaria to Beth horon, and struck and killed three thousand of them, and plundered a large amount of spoils.

Therefore the Lord brought the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria against them, and they captured Manasseh with hooks, bound him with bronze chains, and led him to Babylon.

For behold, they will be gone because of destruction; Egypt will gather them together, Memphis will bury them. Weeds will take possession of their treasures of silver; Thorns will be in their tents.

“ Like a lily among the thorns, So is my darling among the young women.”

He told of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even to the hyssop that grows on the wall; he told also of animals, birds, crawling things, and fish.

But Joash the king of Israel sent a reply to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thorn bush that was in Lebanon sent word to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ But a wild beast that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thorn bush.

Like a thorn that sticks in the hand of a heavy drinker, So is a proverb in the mouths of fools.

Thorns will come up in its fortified towers, Weeds and thistles in its fortified cities; It will also be a haunt of jackals And a habitat of ostriches.
