But Jehoash king of Israel replied to Amaziah king of Judah:“ A thistle in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar in Lebanon,‘ Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ Then a wild beast in Lebanon came along and trampled the thistle underfoot.

But Jehoash, the king of Israel, answered Amaziah, the king of Judah. Jehoash said,“ A thorn bush in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar tree there. The thorn bush said,‘ Give your daughter to be married to my son.’ Then a wild animal in Lebanon came along. It crushed the thorn bush by walking on it.

And Jehoash king of Israel sent word to Amaziah king of Judah,“ A thistle on Lebanon sent to a cedar on Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son for a wife,’ and a wild beast of Lebanon passed by and trampled down the thistle.

But King Jehoash of Israel replied to King Amaziah of Judah with this story:“ Out in the Lebanon mountains, a thistle sent a message to a mighty cedar tree:‘ Give your daughter in marriage to my son.’ But just then a wild animal of Lebanon came by and stepped on the thistle, crushing it!

King Jehoash of Israel sent word to King Amaziah of Judah, saying,“ The thistle in Lebanon once sent a message to the cedar in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son as a wife.’ Then a wild animal in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.

But Jehoash king of Israel sent messengers to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thorn bush that was in Lebanon sent word to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ But a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thorn bush.

King Jehoash of Israel sent this message back to King Amaziah of Judah,“ A thornbush in Lebanon sent this message to a cedar in Lebanon,‘ Give your daughter to my son as a wife.’ Then a wild animal of Lebanon came by and trampled down the thorn.

Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son as wife. Then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by, and trampled down the thistle.

有一次、樹木走來走去要膏立一個王來統治他們；就去對橄欖樹說：「請作王來統治我們。」橄欖樹對他們說：「我哪可以不產出我的肥油、人所用來榮耀神尊重人的油，而去搖來搖去在眾樹之上呢？」樹木對無花果樹說：「請來作王統治我們。」無花果樹對他們說：「我哪可以不產出我的甘甜、我的美果，而去搖來搖去在眾樹之上呢？」樹木對葡萄樹說：「請來作王統治我們。」葡萄樹對他們說：「我哪可以不產出我的新酒，那使神和人都喜樂的酒，而去搖來搖去在眾樹之上呢？」眾樹對荊棘說：「請來作王統治我們。」荊棘對樹木說：「你們若忠誠地膏立了我作王來統治你們，那麼你們就要來、投靠於我的蔭影下；不然，就願火從荊棘裏發出、來燒滅利巴嫩的香柏樹。」

於是我說：『啊，主永恆主啊，人都議論我說：「這人豈不是個說比喻的麼？」』

以色列人見自己危急（因為以色列民真地窘迫），就藏在山洞、叢林、碞穴、地窘、或坑井中，

（因為從我幼年時上帝也像父親一樣把我養大；自從出我母腹以來、他就領導我）；

於是永恆主差遣拿單去見大衛。拿單到了大衛那裏，對他說：『在一座城裏有兩個人；一個富足，一個窮乏。那富足的有羊羣牛羣極多；那窮乏的甚麼也沒有，只有一隻小母羊羔、就是他所買來養活的；這小羊羔在他家裏和他兒女一同長大；喫他所喫的那一點點食物，喝他杯中所有的，睡在他懷中，在他看來就像女兒一樣。有一個旅行的人來到這富人家裏；富人捨不得從自己的羊羣牛羣中取一隻來豫備給那行路的客人喫，卻取了那窮乏人的羊羔去豫備給那客人喫。』

於是亞瑪謝將那從以法蓮來的傭兵隊解散，叫他們往自己的地方去；因此他們非常惱怒猶大人，便氣忿忿地回自己的地方去了。但是亞瑪謝壯起膽來，率領了他的兵眾到鹽谷去，擊殺了西珥人一萬。猶大人又生擒了一萬人，帶到巖石頂上，從巖石頂上扔下去，以致他們身體都破裂了。但亞瑪謝所打發回去、不許同去作戰的雇傭軍人：竟衝過來侵犯猶大各城，從撒瑪利亞直到伯和崙，擊殺了三千人，又掠劫了許多掠物。

因此永恆主使亞述王的將軍來攻擊他們，用鐃鈎鈎住瑪拿西，用銅鍊鎖着他，將他帶到巴比倫去。

因為你看，他們雖往亞述去，埃及卻要把他們收拾掉；孟斐斯人必埋葬他們；他們的銀製寶物蕁麻必佔據；他們帳棚中必生長荊棘。

百合花在蒺藜中怎樣，我的愛侶在女子中也怎樣。

他講論草木，從利巴嫩的香柏樹到牆上長出來的脣形薄荷；他又講論走獸、飛鳥、爬行動物、和魚類。

以色列王約阿施差遣了人去見猶大王亞瑪謝、說：『利巴嫩的蒺藜差遣人去見利巴嫩的香柏樹，說：「將你的女兒給我兒子為妻吧」；後來有一隻利巴嫩的野獸從那裏經過，把蒺藜踐踏了。

箴言在愚頑人口中、就像荊條入於醉漢手裏。

以東的宮堡必長棘荊，她的堡壘中必長蒺藜和刺草；它必做野狗的居所，做鴕鳥之出沒處。
