King Jehoash of Israel sent word to King Amaziah of Judah, saying,“ The thistle in Lebanon once sent a message to the cedar in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son as a wife.’ Then a wild animal in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.

But Jehoash king of Israel replied to Amaziah king of Judah:“ A thistle in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar in Lebanon,‘ Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ Then a wild beast in Lebanon came along and trampled the thistle underfoot.

But Jehoash, the king of Israel, answered Amaziah, the king of Judah. Jehoash said,“ A thorn bush in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar tree there. The thorn bush said,‘ Give your daughter to be married to my son.’ Then a wild animal in Lebanon came along. It crushed the thorn bush by walking on it.

And Jehoash king of Israel sent word to Amaziah king of Judah,“ A thistle on Lebanon sent to a cedar on Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son for a wife,’ and a wild beast of Lebanon passed by and trampled down the thistle.

But King Jehoash of Israel replied to King Amaziah of Judah with this story:“ Out in the Lebanon mountains, a thistle sent a message to a mighty cedar tree:‘ Give your daughter in marriage to my son.’ But just then a wild animal of Lebanon came by and stepped on the thistle, crushing it!

But Jehoash king of Israel sent messengers to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thorn bush that was in Lebanon sent word to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ But a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thorn bush.

And Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son as wife’; and a wild beast that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.

And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trod down the thistle.

King Jehoash of Israel sent word to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thistle that was in Lebanon once sent a message to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son as a wife.’ Then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.

And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that[ was] in Lebanon sent to the cedar that[ was] in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that[ was] in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.

King Jehoash of Israel sent this message back to King Amaziah of Judah,“ A thornbush in Lebanon sent this message to a cedar in Lebanon,‘ Give your daughter to my son as a wife.’ Then a wild animal of Lebanon came by and trampled down the thorn.

Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son as wife. Then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by, and trampled down the thistle.

The trees decided to anoint a king over themselves. They said to the olive tree,“ Reign over us.”But the olive tree said to them,“ Should I stop giving my oil that people use to honor both God and men, and rule over the trees?”Then the trees said to the fig tree,“ Come and reign over us.”But the fig tree said to them,“ Should I stop giving my sweetness and my good fruit, and rule over trees?”Later, the trees said to the grapevine,“ Come and reign over us.”But the grapevine said to them,“ Should I stop giving my wine that cheers both God and man, and rule over trees?”Finally, all the trees said to the bramble,“ Come and reign over us.”The bramble said to the trees,“ If you really are anointing me as king over you, come and find refuge in my shade. But if not, may fire come out from the bramble and consume the cedars of Lebanon.”

Then I said,“ Oh, Lord GOD, they are saying of me,‘ Isn’t he just composing parables?’”

The men of Israel saw that they were in trouble because the troops were in a difficult situation. They hid in caves, in thickets, among rocks, and in holes and cisterns.

for from my youth, I raised him as his father, and since the day I was born I guided the widow—

So the LORD sent Nathan to David. When he arrived, he said to him: There were two men in a certain city, one rich and the other poor.The rich man had very large flocks and herds,but the poor man had nothing except one small ewe lamb that he had bought. He raised her, and she grew up with him and with his children. From his meager food she would eat, from his cup she would drink, and in his arms she would sleep. She was like a daughter to him.Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man could not bring himself to take one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for his guest.

So Amaziah released the division that came to him from Ephraim to go home. But they got very angry with Judah and returned home in a fierce rage.Amaziah strengthened his position and led his people to the Salt Valley. He struck down ten thousand Seirites,and the Judahites captured ten thousand alive. They took them to the top of a cliff where they threw them off, and all of them were dashed to pieces.As for the men of the division that Amaziah sent back so they would not go with him into battle, they raided the cities of Judah from Samaria to Beth-horon, struck down three thousand of their people, and took a great deal of plunder.

So he brought against them the military commanders of the king of Assyria. They captured Manasseh with hooks, bound him with bronze shackles, and took him to Babylon.

For even if they flee from devastation, Egypt will gather them, and Memphis will bury them. Thistles will take possession of their precious silver; thorns will invade their tents.

Like a lily among thorns, so is my darling among the young women.

He spoke about trees, from the cedar in Lebanon to the hyssop growing out of the wall. He also spoke about animals, birds, reptiles, and fish.

A proverb in the mouth of a fool is like a stick with thorns, brandished by the hand of a drunkard.

Her palaces will be overgrown with thorns; her fortified cities, with thistles and briers. She will become a dwelling for jackals, an abode for ostriches.
