耶和華曰、大馬色人犯罪、至三至四、更以鐵器擊基列民人、故我必罰其罪、

先是非利士人不容鐵工居於以色列族地、恐希百來人鑄作劍戟。以色列人欲礪其耒耜、斧斤、則詣非利士人所。惟有銼以削其耒耜、斧斤、與鋤、使錣銳利。當戰之時、惟掃羅與約拿單、有劍戟、從者俱無。非利士人之汛在密抹隘口。

以色列人見事處困迫、遭於患難、則匿於巖穴、林藪、岡巒、坎阱。亦有希百來人濟約但河、遁於伽得、基列。掃羅仍在吉甲、從之者戰慄。

遂核方伯之僕、得二百三十二人、核以色列民、得七千人。

眾集於谷、以受刑罰、我耶和華亦至斯谷、降災於眾、其日伊邇、

撒母耳遄征、自吉甲往便雅憫之其庇亞。掃羅核其從者、計六百人。

爾之仇敵、高若山岡、我將使爾為打榖之器、惟新其製、而有利齒、可擊諸敵、擣之成粉、有若秕糠。後簸揚之、任風吹散。我耶和華乃以色列族之聖主、爾曹賴我、其樂靡涯。

誰召義人、至自東方、導之以行、服眾國、制列王、以鋒刃擊敵、以弓矢射眾、擣之成粉、若風揚秕、

哈泄曰、我主何為哭泣。對曰、我知爾將惡待以色列族、燬其城垣戮其丁男、捽死嬰孩、刳剔孕婦。

今當以人質於我主亞述王、則我予爾馬二千匹、爾能使人乘之否、

我細擣之若塵沙、任風飄揚兮、又棄之若衢路之泥兮。
