Then he commanded,“ Open that eastern window,” and he opened it. Then he said,“ Shoot!” So he shot an arrow. Elisha proclaimed,“ This is the Lord’s arrow, an arrow of victory over Aram, for you will completely conquer the Arameans at Aphek.”

“ Open the east window,” he said, and he opened it.“ Shoot!” Elisha said, and he shot.“ The Lord’s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Aram!” Elisha declared.“ You will completely destroy the Arameans at Aphek.”

“ Open the east window,” Elisha said. So he did.“ Shoot!” Elisha said. So he shot.“ That’s the Lord’ s arrow!” Elisha announced.“ It means you will win the battle over Aram! You will completely destroy the men of Aram at Aphek.”

And he said,“ Open the window eastward,” and he opened it. Then Elisha said,“ Shoot,” and he shot. And he said,“ The Lord’s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Syria! For you shall fight the Syrians in Aphek until you have made an end of them.”

Elisha said,“ Open the east window.” So he opened it. Elisha said,“ Shoot!” So he shot. Then Elisha said,“ The LORD’s arrow of victory, yes, the arrow of victory over Aram. You are to strike down the Arameans in Aphek until you have put an end to them.”

And he said,“ Open the window toward the east,” and he opened it. Then Elisha said,“ Shoot!” So he shot. And he said,“ The Lord’s arrow of victory, and the arrow of victory over Aram; for you will defeat the Arameans at Aphek until you have put an end to them.”

And he said,“ Open the east window”; and he opened it. Then Elisha said,“ Shoot”; and he shot. And he said,“ The arrow of the LORD’s deliverance and the arrow of deliverance from Syria; for you must strike the Syrians at Aphek till you have destroyed them.”

And he said, Open the window eastward; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot; and he shot. And he said, Jehovah’s arrow of victory, even the arrow of victory over Syria; for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.

Elisha said,“ Open the east window.” So he opened it. Elisha said,“ Shoot!” So he shot. Then Elisha said,“ The Lord’s arrow of victory, yes, the arrow of victory over Aram. You are to strike down the Arameans in Aphek until you have put an end to them.”

And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened[ it]. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD’S deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed[ them].

Elisha said,“ Open the east window,” and he did so. Elisha said,“ Shoot!” and he did so. Elisha said,“ This arrow symbolizes the victory the LORD will give you over Syria. You will annihilate Syria in Aphek!”

He said,“ Open the window eastward;” and he opened it. Then Elisha said,“ Shoot!” and he shot. He said,“ Yahweh’s arrow of victory, even the arrow of victory over Syria; for you will strike the Syrians in Aphek, until you have consumed them.”

The following spring he called up the Aramean army and marched out against Israel, this time at Aphek.

But his mother told the servants,“ Do whatever he tells you.”Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons.Jesus told the servants,“ Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled,he said,“ Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions.

But Elisha sent a messenger out to him with this message:“ Go and wash yourself seven times in the Jordan River. Then your skin will be restored, and you will be healed of your leprosy.”But Naaman became angry and stalked away.“ I thought he would certainly come out to meet me!” he said.“ I expected him to wave his hand over the leprosy and call on the name of the Lord his God and heal me!Aren’t the rivers of Damascus, the Abana and the Pharpar, better than any of the rivers of Israel? Why shouldn’t I wash in them and be healed?” So Naaman turned and went away in a rage.But his officers tried to reason with him and said,“ Sir, if the prophet had told you to do something very difficult, wouldn’t you have done it? So you should certainly obey him when he says simply,‘ Go and wash and be cured!’”So Naaman went down to the Jordan River and dipped himself seven times, as the man of God had instructed him. And his skin became as healthy as the skin of a young child, and he was healed!

That night the Lord said,“ Get up! Go down into the Midianite camp, for I have given you victory over them!But if you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with your servant Purah.Listen to what the Midianites are saying, and you will be greatly encouraged. Then you will be eager to attack.” So Gideon took Purah and went down to the edge of the enemy camp.The armies of Midian, Amalek, and the people of the east had settled in the valley like a swarm of locusts. Their camels were like grains of sand on the seashore— too many to count!Gideon crept up just as a man was telling his companion about a dream. The man said,“ I had this dream, and in my dream a loaf of barley bread came tumbling down into the Midianite camp. It hit a tent, turned it over, and knocked it flat!”His companion answered,“ Your dream can mean only one thing— God has given Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite, victory over Midian and all its allies!”When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation, he bowed in worship before the Lord. Then he returned to the Israelite camp and shouted,“ Get up! For the Lord has given you victory over the Midianite hordes!”He divided the 300 men into three groups and gave each man a ram’s horn and a clay jar with a torch in it.Then he said to them,“ Keep your eyes on me. When I come to the edge of the camp, do just as I do.As soon as I and those with me blow the rams’ horns, blow your horns, too, all around the entire camp, and shout,‘ For the Lord and for Gideon!’”It was just after midnight, after the changing of the guard, when Gideon and the 100 men with him reached the edge of the Midianite camp. Suddenly, they blew the rams’ horns and broke their clay jars.Then all three groups blew their horns and broke their jars. They held the blazing torches in their left hands and the horns in their right hands, and they all shouted,“ A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!”

The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.

And Samuel’s words went out to all the people of Israel. At that time Israel was at war with the Philistines. The Israelite army was camped near Ebenezer, and the Philistines were at Aphek.

And take your shepherd’s staff with you, and use it to perform the miraculous signs I have shown you.”

“ Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them. But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested,“ Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.”Jesus responded,“ Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?”So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said,“ Father, thank you for hearing me.

When you hear a sound like marching feet in the tops of the poplar trees, be on the alert! That will be the signal that the Lord is moving ahead of you to strike down the Philistine army.”

Then the Lord asked him,“ What is that in your hand?”“ A shepherd’s staff,” Moses replied.
