In the seventh year of Jehu, Joash became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem forty years. His mother’s name was Zibiah; she was from Beersheba.

Joash became king of Judah. It was in the seventh year of Jehu’s rule. Joash ruled in Jerusalem for 40 years. His mother’s name was Zibiah. She was from Beersheba.

亞哈謝的母親亞她利雅見她兒子死了，就起來剿滅王室所有的後裔。但約蘭王的女兒，亞哈謝的妹妹約示巴，將亞哈謝的兒子約阿施從被殺的王子中偷出來，把他和他的奶媽藏在臥房裏，躲避了亞她利雅，沒有被殺。亞她利雅治理這地的時候，約阿施和他的奶媽在耶和華的殿裏藏了六年。第七年，耶何耶大派人叫迦利人和護衛兵的眾百夫長來，領他們進耶和華的殿，與他們立約，使他們在耶和華殿裏起誓，又把王的兒子指給他們看，

約阿施登基的時候年方七歲，在耶路撒冷作王四十年。他母親名叫西比亞，是別是巴人。耶何耶大祭司在世的日子，約阿施行耶和華眼中看為正的事。耶何耶大為他娶了兩個妻子，他生兒育女。此後，約阿施有心重修耶和華的殿，就召集祭司和利未人，吩咐他們說：「你們要往猶大各城去，向以色列眾人徵收銀子，按每年的需要整修你們上帝的殿；你們要急速辦理這事。」但利未人沒有急速辦理。王召了耶何耶大祭司長來，對他說：「從前耶和華的僕人摩西，為法櫃的帳幕與以色列會眾所定的捐獻，你為何不叫利未人照這例向猶大和耶路撒冷徵收呢？」因為那惡婦亞她利雅的兒子們曾拆毀上帝的殿，又用耶和華殿中分別為聖的物供奉諸巴力。於是王下令造一個櫃子，放在耶和華殿的門外，又通告猶大和耶路撒冷，要將上帝僕人摩西在曠野所吩咐以色列的捐獻送來給耶和華。眾領袖和百姓都歡歡喜喜帶捐獻來，投入櫃中，直到投滿。利未人見銀子多了，把櫃子抬到王所派的官長面前；這時王的書記和祭司長的助手就會來把櫃子倒空，然後放回原處。日日都是這樣做，積蓄的銀子很多。王與耶何耶大把銀子交給耶和華殿裏辦事的人，他們就雇了石匠、木匠重修耶和華的殿，又雇了鐵匠、銅匠整修耶和華的殿。工人做工，修理工程在他們手中漸漸完成，他們將上帝的殿修理得如同從前一樣，非常堅固。他們做完了，就把多餘的銀子拿到王與耶何耶大面前，用以製造耶和華殿供奉所用的器皿和調羹，以及金銀的器皿。耶何耶大在世的日子，眾人經常在耶和華殿裏獻燔祭。

猶大王亞哈謝看見了，就沿着伯‧哈干的路逃跑。耶戶追趕他，說：「把這人也擊殺在車上，在靠近以伯蓮的姑珥坡上」。他逃到米吉多，就死在那裏。
