王站在自己的位上，在耶和華面前立約，要盡心盡性跟從耶和華，遵守他的誡命、法度、律例，實行這書上所記這約的話；

那日，約書亞就與百姓立約，在示劍為他們制定律例典章。

現在，我們要與我們的神立約，送走所有的妻子和她們所生的，照着主和那些因我們神誡命戰兢之人所議定的，按律法去行。

他們立約，要盡心盡性尋求耶和華－他們列祖的神。凡不尋求耶和華－以色列神的，無論大小、男女，必被處死。他們就大聲歡呼，吹號吹角，向耶和華起誓。

撒母耳將君王的典章對百姓說明，又記在書上，放在耶和華面前，然後撒母耳遣散眾百姓，各回自己的家去了。

現在我心中有意與耶和華－以色列的神立約，好使他的烈怒轉離我們。

其餘的百姓、祭司、利未人、門口的守衛、歌唱的、殿役，所有與鄰邦民族分別出來、歸服神律法的，以及他們的妻子、兒女，凡有知識、能明白的，都隨從他們貴族的弟兄發咒起誓，要遵行神藉他僕人摩西所賜的律法，謹守遵行耶和華－我們主的一切誡命、典章、律例。

在上有權柄的，人人要順服，因為沒有權柄不是來自神的。掌權的都是神所立的。所以，抗拒掌權的就是抗拒神所立的；抗拒的人必自招審判。作官的原不是要使行善的懼怕，而是要使作惡的懼怕。你願意不懼怕掌權的嗎？只要行善，你就可得他的稱讚；因為他是神的用人，是與你有益的。你若作惡，就該懼怕，因為他不是徒然佩劍；他是神的用人，為神的憤怒，報應作惡的。所以，你們必須順服，不但是因神的憤怒，也是因着良心。你們納糧也為這個緣故，因他們是神的僕役，專管這事。

第七年，耶何耶大派人叫迦利人和護衛兵的眾百夫長來，領他們進耶和華的殿，與他們立約，使他們在耶和華殿裏起誓，又把王的兒子指給他們看，

並且他們所做的，不但照我們所期望的，更照神的旨意先把自己獻給主，又給了我們。

於是以色列的眾長老都來到希伯崙見王。大衛在希伯崙，在耶和華面前與他們立約，他們就膏大衛作以色列的王，正如耶和華藉撒母耳所說的話。

耶何耶大與眾百姓，又與王立約，要作耶和華的子民。

耶和華在何烈山與以色列人立約以外，這是耶和華在摩押地吩咐摩西與以色列人立約的話。摩西召全以色列來，對他們說：「耶和華在埃及地，在你們眼前向法老和他眾臣僕，以及他的全地所做的一切事，你們都看見了，就是你親眼看見的大考驗，那些神蹟和大奇事。但耶和華到今日還沒有使你們心能明白，眼能看見，耳能聽見。我領你們在曠野四十年，你們身上的衣服沒有穿破，腳上的鞋也沒有穿壞；你們沒有吃餅，也沒有喝清酒烈酒，好讓你們知道『我－耶和華是你們的神』。你們來到這地方，希實本王西宏和巴珊王噩出來迎擊我們，與我們交戰，我們擊敗了他們，取了他們的地，給呂便支派、迦得支派和瑪拿西半支派為業。所以你們要謹守這約的話，遵行它們，好使你們在一切所做的事上亨通。「今日你們全都要站在耶和華－你們的神面前，就是各領袖、族長、長老、官長、以色列所有的男子、你們的妻子兒女、你營中寄居的，從為你砍柴到為你挑水的人，為要使你進入耶和華－你神的約，就是耶和華－你神今日向你起誓所立的；這樣，他今日要立你作他的子民，他作你的神，是照他向你所應許的，又照他向你列祖亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各所起的誓。我不單單與你們立這約，起這誓，就是今日與我們一同站在耶和華－我們神面前的，而且也包括今日不在我們這裏的人。

貴族和官長說：「我們必歸還，不再向他們索取，必照你所說的去做。」我就召了祭司來，叫貴族和官長起誓，必照這話去做。我也抖着胸前的衣袋，說：「凡不實行這話的，願神照樣抖他離開他的家和他勞碌得來的，直到抖空了。」全會眾都說：「阿們！」又讚美耶和華。百姓就照着這話去做。

因這一切，我們立確實的約，寫在冊上。我們的領袖、利未人和祭司都用了印。

耶和華－我們的神在何烈山與我們立約。這約耶和華不是與我們列祖立的，而是與我們，就是今日在這裏還活着的人立的。
