他不但步尼八的兒子耶羅波安的後塵，還娶了西頓王葉巴力的女兒耶洗別為妻，供奉、祭拜巴力。他在撒瑪利亞為巴力建廟，在廟裡為巴力設立祭壇。

最後，弟兄姊妹，你們要思想一切真實、可敬、公義、純潔、可愛、有好名聲、有美德和值得讚許的事情。

他做耶和華視為惡的事，不過沒有他父母那麼敗壞，因為他除掉了他父親立的巴力神柱。

為什麼你們不乾脆說：「我們作惡吧，好成就善事」？有人毀謗我們，說我們傳這種道理。這些人受審判是罪有應得！

你們要為上帝說謊，為祂說詭詐的話嗎？

以利亞對他們說：「抓住巴力的先知，別放走一個人！」眾人就抓住他們，以利亞把他們帶到基順河邊，在那裡殺了他們。

現在，你快派人去召集所有的以色列人到迦密山來見我，把巴力的四百五十名先知和耶洗別所供養的四百名亞舍拉的先知也帶來。」

以利亞繼續對眾人說：「耶和華的先知現在只剩下我一人，巴力的先知卻有四百五十人。
