他不但步尼八的儿子耶罗波安的后尘，还娶了西顿王叶巴力的女儿耶洗别为妻，供奉、祭拜巴力。他在撒玛利亚为巴力建庙，在庙里为巴力设立祭坛。

最后，弟兄姊妹，你们要思想一切真实、可敬、公义、纯洁、可爱、有好名声、有美德和值得赞许的事情。

他做耶和华视为恶的事，不过没有他父母那么败坏，因为他除掉了他父亲立的巴力神柱。

为什么你们不干脆说：“我们作恶吧，好成就善事”？有人毁谤我们，说我们传这种道理。这些人受审判是罪有应得！

你们要为上帝说谎，为祂说诡诈的话吗？

以利亚对他们说：“抓住巴力的先知，别放走一个人！”众人就抓住他们，以利亚把他们带到基顺河边，在那里杀了他们。

现在，你快派人去召集所有的以色列人到迦密山来见我，把巴力的四百五十名先知和耶洗别所供养的四百名亚舍拉的先知也带来。”

以利亚继续对众人说：“耶和华的先知现在只剩下我一人，巴力的先知却有四百五十人。
