One day Israel’s new king, Ahaziah, fell through the latticework of an upper room at his palace in Samaria and was seriously injured. So he sent messengers to the temple of Baal zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether he would recover.

Now Ahaziah had fallen through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria and injured himself. So he sent messengers, saying to them,“ Go and consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, to see if I will recover from this injury.”

Ahaziah had fallen through the window of his upstairs room in Samaria. He had hurt himself. So he sent messengers to ask the god named Baal- Zebub for advice. Baal- Zebub was the god of the city of Ekron. Ahaziah said to the messengers,“ Go and ask Baal- Zebub whether I will get well again.”

Now Ahaziah fell through the lattice in his upper chamber in Samaria, and lay sick; so he sent messengers, telling them,“ Go, inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover from this sickness.”

But the teachers of religious law who had arrived from Jerusalem said,“ He’s possessed by Satan, the prince of demons. That’s where he gets the power to cast out demons.”

And Elijah said to the king,“ This is what the Lord says: Why did you send messengers to Baal zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether you will recover? Is there no God in Israel to answer your question? Therefore, because you have done this, you will never leave the bed you are lying on; you will surely die.”

Elisha went to Damascus, the capital of Aram, where King Ben hadad lay sick. When someone told the king that the man of God had come,the king said to Hazael,“ Take a gift to the man of God. Then tell him to ask the Lord,‘ Will I recover from this illness?’”So Hazael loaded down forty camels with the finest products of Damascus as a gift for Elisha. He went to him and said,“ Your servant Ben hadad, the king of Aram, has sent me to ask,‘ Will I recover from this illness?’”And Elisha replied,“ Go and tell him,‘ You will surely recover.’ But actually the Lord has shown me that he will surely die!”

Students are to be like their teacher, and slaves are to be like their master. And since I, the master of the household, have been called the prince of demons, the members of my household will be called by even worse names!

but some of them said,“ No wonder he can cast out demons. He gets his power from Satan, the prince of demons.”

Have the gods of other nations rescued them— such nations as Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Tel assar? My predecessors destroyed them all!

For Solomon has abandoned me and worshiped Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians; Chemosh, the god of Moab; and Molech, the god of the Ammonites. He has not followed my ways and done what is pleasing in my sight. He has not obeyed my decrees and regulations as David his father did.

And they have thrown the gods of these nations into the fire and burned them. But of course the Assyrians could destroy them! They were not gods at all— only idols of wood and stone shaped by human hands.

But the angel of the Lord told Elijah, who was from Tishbe,“ Go and confront the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them,‘ Is there no God in Israel? Why are you going to Baal zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether the king will recover?

They replied,“ A man came up to us and told us to go back to the king and give him this message.‘ This is what the Lord says: Is there no God in Israel? Why are you sending men to Baal zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether you will recover? Therefore, because you have done this, you will never leave the bed you are lying on; you will surely die.’”

But when the Pharisees heard about the miracle, they said,“ No wonder he can cast out demons. He gets his power from Satan, the prince of demons.”Jesus knew their thoughts and replied,“ Any kingdom divided by civil war is doomed. A town or family splintered by feuding will fall apart.And if Satan is casting out Satan, he is divided and fighting against himself. His own kingdom will not survive.And if I am empowered by Satan, what about your own exorcists? They cast out demons, too, so they will condemn you for what you have said.

As Paul spoke on and on, a young man named Eutychus, sitting on the windowsill, became very drowsy. Finally, he fell sound asleep and dropped three stories to his death below.

Isn’t it calamity for the wicked and misfortune for those who do evil?

So they sent the Ark of God to the town of Ekron, but when the people of Ekron saw it coming they cried out,“ They are bringing the Ark of the God of Israel here to kill us, too!”

“ From the window Sisera’s mother looked out. Through the window she watched for his return, saying,‘ Why is his chariot so long in coming? Why don’t we hear the sound of chariot wheels?’

An Aramean soldier, however, randomly shot an arrow at the Israelite troops and hit the king of Israel between the joints of his armor.“ Turn the horses and get me out of here!” Ahab groaned to the driver of his chariot.“ I’m badly wounded!”

You keep whatever your god Chemosh gives you, and we will keep whatever the Lord our God gives us.

Take him a gift of ten loaves of bread, some cakes, and a jar of honey, and ask him what will happen to the boy.”

My lover is like a swift gazelle or a young stag. Look, there he is behind the wall, looking through the window, peering into the room.
