After that happened, the king sent another captain to Elijah. The captain had his 50 men with him. He said to Elijah,“ Man of God, the king says,‘ Come down at once!’ ”

At this the king sent to Elijah another captain with his fifty men. The captain said to him,“ Man of God, this is what the king says,‘ Come down at once!’”

Again the king sent to him another captain of fifty men with his fifty. And he answered and said to him,“ O man of God, this is the king’s order,‘ Come down quickly!’”

So the king sent another captain with fifty men. The captain said to him,“ Man of God, the king demands that you come down at once.”

So the king sent another captain with his fifty men to Elijah. He took in the situation and announced,“ Man of God, this is what the king says:‘ Come down immediately!’”

So the king again sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty men. And he said to him,“ You man of God, this is what the king says:‘ Come down quickly!’ ”

Then he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty men. And he answered and said to him:“ Man of God, thus has the king said,‘ Come down quickly!’”

And again he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.

So the king sent another captain of 50 with his 50 men to Elijah. He took in the situation and announced,“ Man of God, this is what the king says:‘ Come down immediately!’”

Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.

The king sent another captain and his fifty soldiers to retrieve Elijah. He went up and told him,“ Prophet, this is what the king says,‘ Come down at once!’”

Again he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty. He answered him,“ Man of God, the king has said,‘ Come down quickly!’”

But keep an eye on the cart. See if it goes up toward Beth Shemesh to its own territory. If it does, then it’s the Lord who has brought this horrible trouble on us. But if it doesn’t, then we’ll know it wasn’t his hand that struck us. We’ll know it happened to us by chance.”

Lord, don’t your eyes look for truth? You struck down your people. But they didn’t feel any pain. You crushed them. But they refused to be corrected. They made their faces harder than stone. They refused to turn away from their sins.

Those who are worthless use sinful methods. They make evil plans against poor people. They destroy them with their lies. They do it even when those people are right.

Then the king gave an order to the guards at his side. He said,“ Go and kill the priests of the Lord. They are on David’s side too. They knew he was running away from me. And they didn’t even tell me.” But the king’s officials wouldn’t raise a hand to strike down the priests of the Lord.Then the king ordered Doeg,“ You go and strike down the priests.” So Doeg, the Edomite, went and struck them down. That day he killed 85 priests who wore linen aprons.He also killed the people of Nob with his sword. Nob was a town where priests lived. Doeg killed its men and women. He killed its children and babies. He also destroyed its cattle, donkeys and sheep.

“ Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied.“ I am he,” Jesus said. Judas, who was going to hand Jesus over, was standing there with them.When Jesus said,“ I am he,” they moved back. Then they fell to the ground.He asked them again,“ Who do you want?”“ Jesus of Nazareth,” they said.Jesus answered,“ I told you I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go.”This happened so that the words Jesus had spoken would come true. He had said,“ I have not lost anyone God has given me.”( John 6:39)Simon Peter had a sword and pulled it out. He struck the high priest’s slave and cut off his right ear. The slave’s name was Malchus.Jesus commanded Peter,“ Put your sword away! Shouldn’t I drink the cup of suffering the Father has given me?”Then the group of soldiers, their commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They tied him up

The next day the whole community of Israel told Moses and Aaron they weren’t happy with them.“ You have killed the Lord’ s people,” they said.

“ What can we do with these men?” they asked.“ Everyone living in Jerusalem knows they have performed an unusual miracle. We can’t say it didn’t happen.We have to stop this thing. It must not spread any further among the people. We have to warn these men. They must never speak to anyone in Jesus’ name again.”

Lord, you have raised your hand high to punish them. But they don’t even see it. Let them see how much you love your people. Then they will be put to shame. Let the fire you are saving for your enemies burn them up.

There were men guarding Jesus. They began laughing at him and beating him.They blindfolded him. They said,“ Prophesy! Who hit you?”

Herod realized that the Wise Men had tricked him. So he became very angry. He gave orders about Bethlehem and the area around it. He ordered all the boys two years old and under to be killed. This agreed with the time when the Wise Men had seen the star.

If rulers listen to lies, all their officials become evil.
