惟所貴在心、但望各人隨量樂助、勿取過其量也。

For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.

Do you really want to give? Then the gift is measured by what someone has. It is not measured by what they don’t have.

For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.

Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.

有貧嫠至、納二錢、合銀一釐。耶穌召門徒曰：『我誠告汝、此貧嫠所納、較眾尤多；眾納所餘、婦則於不足之中、盡獻其養生之資矣。』

尤望各自隨意樂助、勿稍存吝嗇或勉強之意。蓋惟以助人為樂者、乃為天主之所樂助耳。

耶穌舉目、望見富人有獻於庫、復睹一貧嫠、投入二錢、乃曰：『予實語爾、此貧嫠所納者、實視彼眾為多；蓋彼眾出其所餘、聊以為貢、而此婦則於不足中、而傾輸其生活之資矣。』

夫人忠於小事、亦必忠於大事、不義於小事、亦必不義於大事。

僕若明知主人之意、而猶不朝乾夕惕、奉行厥旨、則受撻必多；其不知而行當罰之罪者、受撻猶少。誠以賦之厚、則望之深、託之重、則責之嚴也。

乃顧婦而謂西門曰：『盍視此女、予入爾家、爾未注水於我足、彼則以淚洗我足、以髮拭之；爾未嘗與予親吻、彼則自入室以來不輟吻予之足；爾未嘗以油敷我首、彼則以芳液敷我足。

貧者常與爾俱、爾可隨時濟之、予則非爾曹所得而長留。此女傾其所有、而膏澤吾身、所以備吾之葬耳。

各按所賦才能、互相效勞、庶無負天主多方授才之美意。蓋凡百才能、皆屬天主之付託；爾當忠心耿耿，無忝所受之惠也。
