我這樣說，不是為定你們的罪，因為我先前說過：你們常在我們心中，我們甚至可以與你們同生共死。

哥林多人哪，我們對你們，口是坦率的，心是敞開的。你們並不是被我們壓制了，而是被自己的情感壓制了。

路得就說：「不要催我離開你，也不要催我回去，不讓我跟隨你；因為你去哪裡，我也去哪裡；你在哪裡過夜，我也在哪裡過夜；你的族人就是我的族人；你的神就是我的神；你死在哪裡，我也死在哪裡、葬在哪裡。除了死以外，如果有什麼使你我分離，就願耶和華處置我，重重地處置我！」

實際上，神可以為我見證：我是怎樣以基督耶穌的情感，切切地想念你們大家的。我是這樣禱告的：願你們的愛心能在真正的知識和一切分辨力上，越來越豐足有餘，

為此，我不在你們那裡的時候寫了這些事，好讓我來到的時候，不必用主所賜給我的權柄嚴厲地對待你們。這權柄是為了造就人，並不是為了拆毀人。

因此我雖然給你們寫了信，但不是為了那虧負人的，也不是為了那受虧負的，而是為了在神面前把你們對我們的殷勤，向你們顯明出來。

為什麼呢？難道因為我不愛你們嗎？神是知道的！

你們就是我們的推薦信，寫在我們的心裡，被人人所知道、所誦讀；

我在極大的患難和內心的痛苦中，流了許多淚水寫給你們，並不是要使你們憂傷，而是要你們知道我對你們懷有更多的愛。如果有人使人憂傷，他不是使我憂傷，而是在某種程度上使你們大家憂傷——我這樣說，免得說得太嚴重。

我寫這些，不是要你們感到羞愧，而是把你們當做我親愛的兒女來勸誡。其實就算你們在基督裡有上萬的導師，卻沒有很多的父親，因為是我在基督耶穌裡藉著福音生了你們。

所以為了你們的靈魂，我會極其樂意地付出，甚至完全付出。難道我愛你們越多，就越少得到你們的愛嗎？

我們這樣眷愛你們，不僅樂意把神的福音分享給你們，連自己的生命也樂意分享給你們，因為你們成了我們所愛的人。
