我这样说，并不是要定你们的罪，因为我曾经说过，我们心里常惦记你们，甚至愿意和你们生死与共。

哥林多人啊！我们对你们推心置腹，开诚布公，毫无保留，只是你们自己心胸太窄。

路得说：“不要逼我撇你而去。你往哪里去，我也要往哪里去；你住在哪里，我也要住在哪里；你的同胞就是我的同胞，你的上帝就是我的上帝；你死在哪里，我也死在哪里、葬在哪里。只有死才能把我们分开。否则，愿耶和华重重地惩罚我！”

上帝可以作证，我是怎样以基督耶稣的慈爱之心想念你们。我所祈求的就是：你们的爱心随着属灵知识的增加和辨别力的提高而日益增长，

我写这封信是预先警告你们，免得我到你们当中的时候，必须运用基督给我的权柄严厉地对待你们。基督赐给我这权柄是为了造就人，不是毁坏人。

因此，虽然我给你们写过信，但并非为了那犯错的人或那受害的人而写的，而是为了让你们在上帝面前看到自己对我们所存的热心。

为什么呢？难道我不爱你们吗？上帝知道我爱你们！

你们自己就是我们的推荐信，写在了我们心坎上，众所周知，人人可读。

我万分难过、泪流满面地给你们写了前一封信，并非要使你们忧伤，而是要你们明白我是多么疼爱你们。那个令人痛心的人与其说使我忧伤，倒不如说使你们大家都有几分忧伤。我只说几分忧伤，是怕说得太重，他受不了。

我之所以写这些事，并非是叫你们羞愧，而是像劝诫我亲爱的儿女一样劝诫你们。虽然有千万老师将基督的事教导你们，但父亲并不多，因为我借着福音在基督耶稣里成为你们的父亲。

为了你们的灵魂，我甘愿付出，包括自己的生命。难道我越爱你们，就越得不到你们的爱吗？

我们深爱你们，对你们有深厚的感情，不仅乐意把上帝的福音传给你们，甚至把生命给你们也在所不惜。
