For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.

Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

Godly sadness causes us to turn away from our sins and be saved. And we are certainly not sorry about that! But worldly sadness brings death.

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.

The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear a crushed spirit?

“ But what do you think about this? Such people will not die.And yet the people of Israel keep saying,‘ The Lord isn’t doing what’s right!’ O people of Israel, it is you who are not doing what’s right, not I.“ Therefore, I will judge each of you, O people of Israel, according to your actions, says the Sovereign Lord. Repent, and turn from your sins. Don’t let them destroy you!

For the despondent, every day brings trouble; for the happy heart, life is a continual feast.
