We are ignored, even though we are well known. We live close to death, but we are still alive. We have been beaten, but we have not been killed.

似人不知而見知、似瀕死而實生、似受譴而弗亡、

似人不知而眾知、似死而實生、似受譴而弗亡、

似不為人知而眾知、似死而猶生、似受責而不致死、

雖似無聞、而實則闇然日章也；雖似將死、而實則生氣蓬勃也；雖似受刑、而實則真我無恙也；

known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed;

We are known, but people treat us as if we were unknown. We are dying, but we continue to live. We are beaten, but we are not killed.

as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and yet not killed;

as unknown, yet recognized; as dying, yet see— we live; as being disciplined, yet not killed;

as unknown and yet well known, as dying and yet behold, we are alive; as punished and yet not put to death,

as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as chastened, and yet not killed;

as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;

as unknown yet recognized; as dying and look— we live; as being disciplined yet not killed;

As unknown, and[ yet] well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;

as unknown, and yet well- known; as dying and yet– see!– we continue to live; as those who are scourged and yet not executed;

as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and not killed;

Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be evident in our dying bodies.

Instead, I sometimes think God has put us apostles on display, like prisoners of war at the end of a victor’s parade, condemned to die. We have become a spectacle to the entire world— to people and angels alike.

( As the Scriptures say,“ For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”)

We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it.In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead.And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.

I may be unskilled as a speaker, but I’m not lacking in knowledge. We have made this clear to you in every possible way.

“ But what shall I write the emperor? For there is no clear charge against him. So I have brought him before all of you, and especially you, King Agrippa, so that after we examine him, I might have something to write.

We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods. We don’t try to trick anyone or distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know this.

But as you have seen and heard, this man Paul has persuaded many people that handmade gods aren’t really gods at all. And he’s done this not only here in Ephesus but throughout the entire province!

They were convinced by the power of miraculous signs and wonders and by the power of God’s Spirit. In this way, I have fully presented the Good News of Christ from Jerusalem all the way to Illyricum.

Instead, it was something about their religion and a dead man named Jesus, who Paul insists is alive.

Because we understand our fearful responsibility to the Lord, we work hard to persuade others. God knows we are sincere, and I hope you know this, too.

And still the churches in Christ that are in Judea didn’t know me personally.All they knew was that people were saying,“ The one who used to persecute us is now preaching the very faith he tried to destroy!”And they praised God because of me.

During their stay of several days, Festus discussed Paul’s case with the king.“ There is a prisoner here,” he told him,“ whose case was left for me by Felix.When I was in Jerusalem, the leading priests and Jewish elders pressed charges against him and asked me to condemn him.

For I swear, dear brothers and sisters, that I face death daily. This is as certain as my pride in what Christ Jesus our Lord has done in you.

He also had a debate with some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers. When he told them about Jesus and his resurrection, they said,“ What’s this babbler trying to say with these strange ideas he’s picked up?” Others said,“ He seems to be preaching about some foreign gods.”

I will not die; instead, I will live to tell what the Lord has done.The Lord has punished me severely, but he did not let me die.

As Paul was about to be taken inside, he said to the commander,“ May I have a word with you?”“ Do you know Greek?” the commander asked, surprised.“ Aren’t you the Egyptian who led a rebellion some time ago and took 4,000 members of the Assassins out into the desert?”

Yet when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned along with the world.
