If we are“ out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.

Are we“ out of our minds,” as some people say? If so, it is because we want to serve God. Does what we say make sense? If so, it is because we want to serve you.

For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.

If it seems we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God. And if we are in our right minds, it is for your benefit.

For if we are out of our mind, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.

For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; or if we are of sound mind, it is for you.

For whether we are beside ourselves, it is unto God; or whether we are of sober mind, it is unto you.

For if we are out of our mind, it is for God; if we have a sound mind, it is for you.

For whether we be beside ourselves,[ it is] to God: or whether we be sober,[ it is] for your cause.

While Paul was stating these things in his defense, Festus* said in a loud voice,“ Paul, you are out of your mind! Your great learning is driving you insane.”But Paul* said,“ I am not insane, most excellent Festus; on the contrary, I am speaking out with truthful and rational words.

I have become foolish; you yourselves compelled me. Actually I should have been commended by you, since I was in no respect inferior to the most eminent apostles, even though I am a nobody.

For if I do wish to boast I will not be foolish, for I will be speaking the truth; but I refrain from this, so that no one will credit me with more than he sees in me or hears from me.

We are fools on account of Christ, but you are prudent in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are without honor!Up to this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty, and are poorly clothed and roughly treated and homeless;and we labor, working with our own hands; when we are verbally abused, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;when we are slandered, we reply as friends; we have become as the scum of the world, the dregs of all things, even until now.

But David said to Michal,“ I was before the Lord, who preferred me to your father and to all his house, to appoint me as ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel. So I will celebrate before the Lord!And I might demean myself even more than this and be lowly in my own sight, but with the female slaves of whom you have spoken, with them I am to be held in honor!”

For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory.

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am supplementing what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions in behalf of His body, which is the church.

So although I wrote to you, it was not for the sake of the offender nor for the sake of the one offended, but that your earnestness in our behalf might be made known to you in the sight of God.

For our exhortation does not come from error or impurity or by way of deceit;but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not intending to please people, but to please God, who examines our hearts.For we never came with flattering speech, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed— God is our witness—nor did we seek honor from people, either from you or from others, though we could have asserted our authority as apostles of Christ.But we proved to be gentle among you.
