Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.

Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.

We know what it means to have respect for the Lord. So we try to help other people to understand it. What we are is plain to God. I hope it is also plain to your way of thinking.

Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience.

Because we understand our fearful responsibility to the Lord, we work hard to persuade others. God knows we are sincere, and I hope you know this, too.

Therefore, since we know the fear of the Lord, we try to persuade people. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your consciences.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient,in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

saying,“ This fellow persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.”

And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

For destruction from God is a terror to me, And because of His magnificence I cannot endure.

For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and more abundantly toward you.For we are not writing any other things to you than what you read or understand. Now I trust you will understand, even to the end( as also you have understood us in part), that we are your boast as you also are ours, in the day of the Lord Jesus.

But he said to him,‘ If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’”

For our exhortation did not come from error or uncleanness, nor was it in deceit.But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak for covetousness— God is witness.Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.But we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children.So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.For you remember, brethren, our labor and toil; for laboring night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe;as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children,that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

For the king, before whom I also speak freely, knows these things; for I am convinced that none of these things escapes his attention, since this thing was not done in a corner.

For I know of nothing against myself, yet I am not justified by this; but He who judges me is the Lord.Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one’s praise will come from God.

And when they had come to him, he said to them:“ You know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you,serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews;how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house,testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there,except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me.But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.“ And indeed, now I know that you all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, will see my face no more.Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men.For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God.

And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks.

We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain.

For the arrows of the Almighty are within me; My spirit drinks in their poison; The terrors of God are arrayed against me.

And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Who can stand before His indignation? And who can endure the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, And the rocks are thrown down by Him.

But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!

Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.

Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.

Now when the congregation had broken up, many of the Jews and devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart.But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—

Moreover you see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but throughout almost all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are not gods which are made with hands.

I have been afflicted and ready to die from my youth; I suffer Your terrors; I am distraught.Your fierce wrath has gone over me; Your terrors have cut me off.

Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath.

Terrors frighten him on every side, And drive him to his feet.

Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.

For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.

And they journeyed, and the terror of God was upon the cities that were all around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

The sinners in Zion are afraid; Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites:“ Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?”

For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening.

You, Yourself, are to be feared; And who may stand in Your presence When once You are angry?
