Therefore, because we know the fear of the Lord, we try to persuade people, but we are well known to God, and I hope we are well known to your consciences too.

Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.

We know what it means to have respect for the Lord. So we try to help other people to understand it. What we are is plain to God. I hope it is also plain to your way of thinking.

Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience.

Because we understand our fearful responsibility to the Lord, we work hard to persuade others. God knows we are sincere, and I hope you know this, too.

It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

And the Lord’s slave must not engage in heated disputes but be kind toward all, an apt teacher, patient,correcting opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance and then knowledge of the truthand they will come to their senses and escape the devil’s trap where they are held captive to do his will.

saying,“ This man is persuading people to worship God in a way contrary to the law!”

If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, that person was thrown into the lake of fire.

For the calamity from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his majesty I was powerless.

For our reason for confidence is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with pure motives and sincerity which are from God– not by human wisdom but by the grace of God– we conducted ourselves in the world, and all the more toward you.For we do not write you anything other than what you can read and also understand. Like a nursing mother caring for her own children,with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.For you recall, brothers and sisters, our toil and drudgery: By working night and day so as not to impose a burden on any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.You are witnesses, and so is God, as to how holy and righteous and blameless our conduct was toward you who believe.As you know, we treated each one of you as a father treats his own children,exhorting and encouraging you and insisting that you live in a way worthy of God who calls you to his own kingdom and his glory.

For the king knows about these things, and I am speaking freely to him, because I cannot believe that any of these things has escaped his notice, for this was not done in a corner.

He addressed both Jews and Greeks in the synagogue every Sabbath, attempting to persuade them.

Now because we are fellow workers, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain.

For the arrows of the Almighty are within me; my spirit drinks their poison; God’s sudden terrors are arrayed against me.

And these will depart into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

No one can withstand his indignation! No one can resist his fierce anger! His wrath is poured out like volcanic fire, boulders are broken up as he approaches.

But I will warn you whom you should fear: Fear the one who, after the killing, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him!

Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making his plea through us. We plead with you on Christ’s behalf,“ Be reconciled to God!”

We proclaim him by instructing and teaching all people with all wisdom so that we may present every person mature in Christ.Toward this goal I also labor, struggling according to his power that powerfully works in me.

When the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and God- fearing proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking with them and were persuading them to continue in the grace of God.

Therefore, since we have this ministry, just as God has shown us mercy, we do not become discouraged.But we have rejected shameful hidden deeds, not behaving with deceptiveness or distorting the word of God, but by open proclamation of the truth we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience before God.

If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off! It is better for you to enter into life crippled than to have two hands and go into hell, to the unquenchable fire.

And you see and hear that this Paul has persuaded and turned away a large crowd, not only in Ephesus but in practically all of the province of Asia, by saying that gods made by hands are not gods at all.

I am oppressed and have been on the verge of death since my youth. I have been subjected to your horrors and am numb with pain.Your anger overwhelms me; your terrors destroy me.

Who can really fathom the intensity of your anger? Your raging fury causes people to fear you.

Terrors frighten him on all sides and dog his every step.

How desolate they become in a mere moment! Terrifying judgments make their demise complete!

Am I now trying to gain the approval of people, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ!

and they started on their journey. The surrounding cities were afraid of God, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the one who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Sinners are afraid in Zion; panic grips the godless. They say,‘ Who among us can coexist with destructive fire? Who among us can coexist with unquenchable fire?’

For we are not like so many others, hucksters who peddle the word of God for profit, but we are speaking in Christ before God as persons of sincerity, as persons sent from God.

For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and for the gospel will save it.For what benefit is it for a person to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his life?What can a person give in exchange for his life?For if anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

They set a day to meet with him, and they came to him where he was staying in even greater numbers. From morning until evening he explained things to them, testifying about the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus from both the law of Moses and the prophets.
