Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade people, but we are well known to God; and I hope that we are also well known in your consciences.

Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.

We know what it means to have respect for the Lord. So we try to help other people to understand it. What we are is plain to God. I hope it is also plain to your way of thinking.

Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience.

Because we understand our fearful responsibility to the Lord, we work hard to persuade others. God knows we are sincere, and I hope you know this, too.

Therefore, since we know the fear of the Lord, we try to persuade people. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your consciences.

Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.

It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

The Lord’s bond servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, skillful in teaching, patient when wronged,with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.

saying,“ This man is inciting the people to worship God contrary to the law.”

And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

For disaster from God is a terror to me, And because of His majesty I can do nothing.

For our proud confidence is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and godly sincerity, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you.For we write nothing else to you than what you read and understand, and I hope you will understand until the end;just as you also partially did understand us, that we are your reason to be proud as you also are ours, on the day of our Lord Jesus.

But he said to him,‘ If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’ ”

For our exhortation does not come from error or impurity or by way of deceit;but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not intending to please people, but to please God, who examines our hearts.For we never came with flattering speech, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed— God is our witness—nor did we seek honor from people, either from you or from others, though we could have asserted our authority as apostles of Christ.But we proved to be gentle among you. As a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children,in the same way we had a fond affection for you and were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us.For you recall, brothers and sisters, our labor and hardship: it was by working night and day so as not to be a burden to any of you, that we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.You are witnesses, and so is God, of how devoutly and rightly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers;just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children,so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

For the king knows about these matters, and I also speak to him with confidence, since I am persuaded that none of these things escape his notice; for this has not been done in a corner.

For I am not aware of anything against myself; however I am not vindicated by this, but the one who examines me is the Lord.Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of human hearts; and then praise will come to each person from God.

And when they came to him, he said to them,“ You yourselves know, from the first day that I set foot in Asia, how I was with you the whole time,serving the Lord with all humility and with tears and trials which came upon me through the plots of the Jews;how I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was beneficial, and teaching you publicly and from house to house,solemnly testifying to both Jews and Greeks of repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.And now, behold, bound by the Spirit, I am on my way to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there,except that the Holy Spirit solemnly testifies to me in every city, saying that chains and afflictions await me.But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of God’s grace.“ And now behold, I know that all of you, among whom I went about preaching the kingdom, will no longer see my face.Therefore, I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all people.For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God.

And Paul was reasoning in the synagogue every Sabbath and trying to persuade Jews and Greeks.

And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain—

For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, My spirit drinks their poison; The terrors of God line up against me.

These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Who can stand before His indignation? Who can endure the burning of His anger? His wrath gushes forth like fire, And the rocks are broken up by Him.

But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed someone, has the power to throw that person into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him!

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

We proclaim Him, admonishing every person and teaching every person with all wisdom, so that we may present every person complete in Christ.For this purpose I also labor, striving according to His power which works mightily within me.

Now when the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and the God fearing proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking to them and urging them to continue in the grace of God.

Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we received mercy, we do not lose heart,but we have renounced the things hidden because of shame, not walking in trickery nor distorting the word of God, but by the open proclamation of the truth commending ourselves to every person’s conscience in the sight of God.

And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed, than, having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire.

You see and hear that not only in Ephesus, but in almost all of Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away a considerable number of people, saying that gods made by hands are not gods at all.

I was miserable and about to die from my youth on; I suffer Your terrors; I grow weary.Your burning anger has passed over me; Your terrors have destroyed me.

Who understands the power of Your anger And Your fury, according to the fear that is due You?

All around sudden terrors frighten him, And harass him at every step.

How they are destroyed in a moment! They are utterly swept away by sudden terrors!

For am I now seeking the favor of people, or of God? Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a bond servant of Christ.

As they journeyed, there was a great terror upon the cities which were around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.

And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Sinners in Zion are terrified; Trembling has seized the godless.“ Who among us can live with the consuming fire? Who among us can live with everlasting burning?”

For we are not like the many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God.

For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.For what does it benefit a person to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?For what could a person give in exchange for his soul?For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

When they had set a day for Paul, people came to him at his lodging in large numbers; and he was explaining to them by solemnly testifying about the kingdom of God and trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, from both the Law of Moses and from the Prophets, from morning until evening.

You, You indeed are to be feared, And who may stand in Your presence, once You are angry?
