But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

Treasure is kept in clay jars. In the same way, we have the treasure of the good news in these earthly bodies of ours. That shows that the mighty power of the good news comes from God. It doesn’t come from us.

But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

And the Lord said to Gideon,“ The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying,‘ My own hand has saved me.’

For though He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you.

How much more those who dwell in houses of clay, Whose foundation is in the dust, Who are crushed before a moth?

For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.

even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ( by grace you have been saved),

as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

For I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last, as men condemned to death; for we have been made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored!To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless.And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure;being defamed, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now.

Then He said to them,“ Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.”

Then he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet into every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and torches inside the pitchers.And he said to them,“ Look at me and do likewise; watch, and when I come to the edge of the camp you shall do as I do:When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then you also blow the trumpets on every side of the whole camp, and say,‘ The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!’”So Gideon and the hundred men who were with him came to the outpost of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, just as they had posted the watch; and they blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers that were in their hands.Then the three companies blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers— they held the torches in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands for blowing— and they cried,“ The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!”

Remember, I pray, that You have made me like clay. And will You turn me into dust again?
