But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

Treasure is kept in clay jars. In the same way, we have the treasure of the good news in these earthly bodies of ours. That shows that the mighty power of the good news comes from God. It doesn’t come from us.

But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that[ are] with thee[ are] too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you.

How much less[ in] them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation[ is] in the dust,[ which] are crushed before the moth?

For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ,( by grace ye are saved;)

As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and[ yet] possessing all things.

For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.We[ are] fools for Christ’s sake, but ye[ are] wise in Christ; we[ are] weak, but ye[ are] strong; ye[ are] honourable, but we[ are] despised.Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world,[ and are] the offscouring of all things unto this day.

Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe[ which is] instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man[ that is] an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure[ things] new and old.

And he divided the three hundred men[ into] three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be[ that], as I do, so shall ye do.When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that[ are] with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say,[ The sword] of the LORD, and of Gideon.So Gideon, and the hundred men that[ were] with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that[ were] in their hands.And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow[ withal]: and they cried, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.

Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again?
