Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.

Instead, we have given up doing secret and shameful things. We don’t twist God’s word. In fact, we do just the opposite. We present the truth plainly. In the sight of God, we make our appeal to everyone’s sense of what is right and wrong.

But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.

We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods. We don’t try to trick anyone or distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know this.

Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful things, not acting deceitfully or distorting the word of God, but commending ourselves before God to everyone’s conscience by an open display of the truth.

實際上，我們不像許多人那樣，用神的話語來做生意；相反，我們是出於真誠、出於神，在神面前、在基督裡講話。

我們的勸勉不是出於迷惑，不是出於汙穢，也不是用詭詐；相反，我們怎樣被神考驗而受了福音的委託，我們就照樣傳講；不是要討人的喜悅，而是要討神的喜悅——神是考驗我們內心的。實際上，我們從來沒有用過諂媚的話，這是你們知道的；也沒有懷著貪婪的居心，這是神可以見證的。

既然如此，我們因為知道敬畏主，就勸導人。我們在神面前是顯明的，但我希望在你們的良心裡，也是顯明的。

因為這樣的人是假使徒，是詭詐的工人，他們裝做基督的使徒。這並不足為奇，原來撒旦自己也裝做光明的天使；所以，即使他的僕人把自己裝做義的僕人，也不足為怪；他們的結局必然照著他們的行為。

所以時候沒有到，在主來臨之前，不要評斷任何事；主將照亮黑暗中隱祕的事，顯明人心裡的計劃。那時候，稱讚將從神那裡臨到各人。

可是我擔心，恐怕你們的思想受到敗壞，離開對基督的忠實和貞潔，就像蛇用牠的詭計欺騙了夏娃那樣。

原來，即使我向提多誇耀過你們什麼，我也不至於蒙羞；其實就像我們對你們所講的一切都是真實的，照樣我們向提多所誇耀你們的也是真實的；

反而在一切事上都證明自己是神的僕人：在極大的忍耐中，在各種患難、艱難、困苦中，在鞭打、監禁、混亂中，在勞苦、失眠、飢餓中，在純潔、知識、耐心、仁慈中，藉著聖靈，在不虛假的愛中，在真理的話語中，在神的大能中，藉著右手左手的公義兵器，

那麼，在你們現在看為羞恥的那些事上，你們當時到底得了什麼果子呢？那些事的結局就是死。

這樣，我們就不再是小孩子，在人的狡詐和詭計中陷入那迷惑人的騙局，被各種教義之風搖動，飄來飄去。

因為他們暗中所做的，連說出來也是可恥的。

的確，我不以福音為恥，因為這福音是神的大能，把救恩帶給一切相信的人，先是猶太人、後是外邦人。

我們所誇耀的是這一點：我們的良心見證了我們在世上行事為人帶著屬神的忠實和真誠，不是靠屬肉體的智慧，而是靠神的恩典；對你們更是如此。

即使我在言語上沒有技巧，但在知識上並不是這樣。其實我們在各個方面、在所有的事上都已經向你們顯明了這一點。
