For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.

And Jesus said,“ For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him,“ Are we blind also?”Jesus said to them,“ If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say,‘ We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying,“ I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

And after the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying,“ Men and brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.”

Jesus answered and said to him,“ Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

“ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, Lest they should see with their eyes, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.”

Then He said to them,“ O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?”And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

He answered and said to them,“ Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.

Then He said to them,“ These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.Then He said to them,“ Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,

What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded.Just as it is written:“ God has given them a spirit of stupor, Eyes that they should not see And ears that they should not hear, To this very day.”And David says:“ Let their table become a snare and a trap, A stumbling block and a recompense to them.Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see, and bow down their back always.”

Then He took the twelve aside and said to them,“ Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished.For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon.They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.”But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know the things which were spoken.

I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.

But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says:‘ Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive;For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’

“ Son of man, you dwell in the midst of a rebellious house, which has eyes to see but does not see, and ears to hear but does not hear; for they are a rebellious house.

They do not know nor understand; For He has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, And their hearts, so that they cannot understand.

We grope for the wall like the blind, And we grope as if we had no eyes; We stumble at noonday as at twilight; We are as dead men in desolate places.

His watchmen are blind, They are all ignorant; They are all dumb dogs, They cannot bark; Sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.

‘ Hear this now, O foolish people, Without understanding, Who have eyes and see not, And who have ears and hear not:

Let grace be shown to the wicked, Yet he will not learn righteousness; In the land of uprightness he will deal unjustly, And will not behold the majesty of the Lord.Lord, when Your hand is lifted up, they will not see. But they will see and be ashamed For their envy of people; Yes, the fire of Your enemies shall devour them.Lord, You will establish peace for us, For You have also done all our works in us.

“ Hear, you deaf; And look, you blind, that you may see.Who is blind but My servant, Or deaf as My messenger whom I send? Who is blind as he who is perfect, And blind as the LORD’s servant?Seeing many things, but you do not observe; Opening the ears, but he does not hear.”

And He will destroy on this mountain The surface of the covering cast over all people, And the veil that is spread over all nations.

Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see; And make their loins shake continually.

saying,‘ Go to this people and say:“ Hearing you will hear, and shall not understand; And seeing you will see, and not perceive;For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.”’

who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

“ Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed.”
