蓋前書雖曾使爾等憂戚、吾固無所悔也。雖然、吾亦忍痛而為之耳、豈欲見爾等有一日之憂戚乎？吾今則樂甚；非樂爾等之憂戚、乃樂爾等因憂戚而致悔改耳。爾等之憂戚、既允合天主聖意、則固未因吾人而受損也。

蓋方今天下、與基督之十字架為敵者滔滔皆是也。此予已屢為爾曹陳之、今復涕泣為爾等道之；

耶穌將抵國都、望城而泣曰：『汝倘能於此日、恍然了悟平安之所自、豈不美乎？奈何至今！汝目猶有所蒙也。定期將至、爾敵將周圍築壘、四面相逼、夷爾墉堞、滅爾子民、將無一片之石、仍留他石之上、凡此皆緣汝不識寵眷之日故也。』

蓋我為天主之故、熱中於爾、甚至有患得患失之情緒。吾既將爾許配良人、固願爾好自保持貞節、克配基督。

蓋吾有大憂、中心恆覺惄焉如擣。倘能救我兄弟骨肉之親、則吾本人雖見絕於基督、亦所願也！
