因是、吾人不敢貶損天主聖道、以圖私利、若滔滔者之所為；惟知契合基督、對越天主、一秉至誠、以宣純粹之道而已矣。

Unlike many people, we aren’t selling God’s word to make money. In fact, it is just the opposite. Because of Christ we speak honestly before God. We speak like people God has sent.

For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

You see, we are not like the many hucksters who preach for personal profit. We preach the word of God with sincerity and with Christ’s authority, knowing that God is watching us.

For we do not market the word of God for profit like so many. On the contrary, we speak with sincerity in Christ, as from God and before God.

For we are not like the many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God.

Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.

Now this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, with integrity and godly sincerity. We have done so, relying not on worldly wisdom but on God’s grace.

Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality.Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans.

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them— bringing swift destruction on themselves.Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

The great dragon was hurled down— that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.

Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old bread leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house.

The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end?

The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel,for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained.Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him;if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us;if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,who have departed from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some.

The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.

They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach— and that for the sake of dishonest gain.

holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.

They think the dreams they tell one another will make my people forget my name, just as their ancestors forgot my name through Baal worship.Let the prophet who has a dream recount the dream, but let the one who has my word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?” declares the Lord.“ Is not my word like fire,” declares the Lord,“ and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?“ Therefore,” declares the Lord,“ I am against the prophets who steal from one another words supposedly from me.Yes,” declares the Lord,“ I am against the prophets who wag their own tongues and yet declare,‘ The Lord declares.’Indeed, I am against those who prophesy false dreams,” declares the Lord.“ They tell them and lead my people astray with their reckless lies, yet I did not send or appoint them. They do not benefit these people in the least,” declares the Lord.

For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ.And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.
