因是、吾人不敢貶損天主聖道、以圖私利、若滔滔者之所為；惟知契合基督、對越天主、一秉至誠、以宣純粹之道而已矣。

Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God.

Unlike many people, we aren’t selling God’s word to make money. In fact, it is just the opposite. Because of Christ we speak honestly before God. We speak like people God has sent.

For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

You see, we are not like the many hucksters who preach for personal profit. We preach the word of God with sincerity and with Christ’s authority, knowing that God is watching us.

For we are not like the many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God.

For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

For we are not as the many, corrupting the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, speak we in Christ.

Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful things, not acting deceitfully or distorting the word of God, but commending ourselves before God to everyone’s conscience by an open display of the truth.

Indeed, this is our boast: The testimony of our conscience is that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you, with godly sincerity and purity, not by human wisdom but by God’s grace.

But I have a few things against you. You have some there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to place a stumbling block in front of the Israelites: to eat meat sacrificed to idols and to commit sexual immorality.In the same way, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans.

There were indeed false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, and will bring swift destruction on themselves.Many will follow their depraved ways, and the way of truth will be maligned because of them.They will exploit you in their greed with made-up stories. Their condemnation, pronounced long ago, is not idle, and their destruction does not sleep.

But the beast was taken prisoner, and along with it the false prophet, who had performed the signs in its presence. He deceived those who accepted the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image with these signs. Both of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.

For some people, who were designated for this judgment long ago, have come in by stealth; they are ungodly, turning the grace of our God into sensuality and denying Jesus Christ, our only Master and Lord.

So the great dragon was thrown out— the ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the one who deceives the whole world. He was thrown to earth, and his angels with him.

because I did not avoid declaring to you the whole plan of God.

But I have this against you: You tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and teaches and deceives my servants to commit sexual immorality and to eat meat sacrificed to idols.

For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear what they want to hear.They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths.

For false messiahs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

Therefore, let us observe the feast, not with old leaven or with the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

You know that I did not avoid proclaiming to you anything that was profitable or from teaching you publicly and from house to house.

The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority. My people love it like this. But what will you do at the end of it?

The hardworking farmer ought to be the first to get a share of the crops.Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead and descended from David, according to my gospel,for which I suffer to the point of being bound like a criminal. But the word of God is not bound.This is why I endure all things for the elect: so that they also may obtain salvation, which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.This saying is trustworthy: For if we died with him, we will also live with him;if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us;if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.Remind them of these things, and charge them before God not to fight about words. This is useless and leads to the ruin of those who listen.Be diligent to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.Avoid irreverent and empty speech, since those who engage in it will produce even more godlessness,and their teaching will spread like gangrene. Hymenaeus and Philetus are among them.They have departed from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and are ruining the faith of some.

Now the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will depart from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons,through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared.They forbid marriage and demand abstinence from foods that God created to be received with gratitude by those who believe and know the truth.

It is necessary to silence them; they are ruining entire households by teaching what they shouldn’t in order to get money dishonestly.

having faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and have shipwrecked the faith.Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have delivered to Satan, so that they may be taught not to blaspheme.

Through their dreams that they tell one another, they plan to cause my people to forget my name as their ancestors forgot my name through Baal worship.The prophet who has only a dream should recount the dream, but the one who has my word should speak my word truthfully, for what is straw compared to grain?”— this is the LORD’s declaration.“ Is not my word like fire”— this is the LORD’s declaration—“ and like a hammer that pulverizes rock?Therefore, take note! I am against the prophets”— the LORD’s declaration—“ who steal my words from each other.I am against the prophets”— the LORD’s declaration—“ who use their own tongues to make a declaration.I am against those who prophesy false dreams”— the LORD’s declaration—“ telling them and leading my people astray with their reckless lies. It was not I who sent or commanded them, and they are of no benefit at all to these people”— this is the LORD’s declaration.

For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.And no wonder! For Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.So it is no great surprise if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will be according to their works.

By faith he left Egypt behind, not being afraid of the king’s anger, for Moses persevered as one who sees him who is invisible.
