I already gave you a warning when I was with you the second time. I now repeat it while absent: On my return I will not spare those who sinned earlier or any of the others,

I already warned you during my second visit. I now say it again while I’m away. When I return, I won’t spare those who sinned earlier. I won’t spare any of the others either.

I warned those who sinned before and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present on my second visit, that if I come again I will not spare them—

我求告神為我的靈魂見證：我沒有再往哥林多去，是因為顧惜你們。

主所賜給我們的權柄是為了造就你們，不是為了拆毀你們。其實，就算我為這權柄有些過度的誇耀，我也不至於蒙羞。我不願看起來像是在用書信恐嚇你們。因為有人說：「保羅的書信又嚴厲又強硬，但他親身在的時候卻是軟弱的人，他的言語也被藐視。」說這樣話的人應該想一想：我們不在你們那裡的時候，書信上的話語怎樣；我們在的時候，我們的行為也會怎樣。

我保羅與你們面對面的時候是卑微的，不在你們那裡的時候向你們卻是大膽的。現在我親自以基督的溫柔與謙和懇求你們：我請求，當我在你們那裡的時候，我不需要大膽自信；我本來打算用這樣的勇氣來對付那些人——他們把我們看做是順著肉體行事的。

其實我擔心，恐怕我來到的時候會發現你們不像我所希望的那樣，而你們發現我也不像你們所希望的那樣；又恐怕有紛爭、嫉妒、暴怒、爭競、誹謗、讒言、自大和混亂；恐怕我來的時候，我的神會使我在你們面前再一次蒙羞，而且因為許多人從前犯了罪，又不肯為他們所行的汙穢、淫亂和好色的事而悔改，我就會悲傷。

但如果主願意，我不久就會到你們那裡去；那時候，我所要知道的不是那些自我膨脹之人的話語，而是他們的權能，因為神的國不在於話語，而在於權能。你們要什麼呢？要我帶著權杖，還是要我帶著愛和溫柔的心靈到你們那裡去呢？

為此，我不在你們那裡的時候寫了這些事，好讓我來到的時候，不必用主所賜給我的權柄嚴厲地對待你們。這權柄是為了造就人，並不是為了拆毀人。

把這樣的人交給撒旦，使他的肉體毀滅，好讓他的靈魂在主的日子可以得救。
