蓋吾深恐爾我相見之時、爾不能副我之望、我亦不能副爾之望；又恐爾中有鬥爭、嫉妒、忿怒、樹黨、誹謗、隱刺、傲慢、紛亂等事；

For I am afraid that when I come I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as you want me to be. I fear that there may be discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder.

They are filled with every kind of unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, malice. They are rife with envy, murder, strife, deceit, hostility. They are gossips,

For members of Chloe’s household have made it clear to me, my brothers and sisters, that there are quarrels among you.

So get rid of all evil and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.

However, if you continually bite and devour one another, beware that you are not consumed by one another.

All who hate me whisper insults about me to one another; they plan ways to harm me.

For we rejoice whenever we are weak, but you are strong. What do you have that you did not receive? And if you received it, why do you boast as though you did not?Already you are satisfied! Already you are rich! You have become kings without us! I wish you had become kings so that we could reign with you!

Now I appeal to God as my witness, that to spare you I did not come again to Corinth.I do not mean that we rule over your faith, but we are workers with you for your joy, because by faith you stand firm.So I made up my own mind not to pay you another painful visit.For if I make you sad, who would be left to make me glad but the one I caused to be sad?And I wrote this very thing to you, so that when I came I would not have sadness from those who ought to make me rejoice, since I am confident in you all that my joy would be yours.For out of great distress and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears, not to make you sad, but to let you know the love that I have especially for you.

for God is not characterized by disorder but by peace. As in all the churches of the saints,

Some have become arrogant, as if I were not coming to you.But I will come to you soon, if the Lord is willing, and I will find out not only the talk of these arrogant people, but also their power.For the kingdom of God is demonstrated not in idle talk but with power.What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod of discipline or with love and a spirit of gentleness?

The fact that you have lawsuits among yourselves demonstrates that you have already been defeated. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?But you yourselves wrong and cheat, and you do this to your brothers and sisters!

Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, depravity,idolatry, sorcery, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish rivalries, dissensions, factions,envying, murder, drunkenness, carousing, and similar things. I am warning you, as I had warned you before: Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God!

You must put away every kind of bitterness, anger, wrath, quarreling, and evil, slanderous talk.Instead, be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfishness in your hearts, do not boast and tell lies against the truth.Such wisdom does not come from above but is earthly, natural, demonic.For where there is jealousy and selfishness, there is disorder and every evil practice.

For even though I am absent physically, I am present in spirit. And I have already judged the one who did this, just as though I were present.When you gather together in the name of our Lord Jesus, and I am with you in spirit, along with the power of our Lord Jesus,turn this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.

for you are still influenced by the flesh. For since there is still jealousy and dissension among you, are you not influenced by the flesh and behaving like unregenerate people?For whenever someone says,“ I am with Paul,” or“ I am with Apollos,” are you not merely human?

Where do the conflicts and where do the quarrels among you come from? Is it not from this, from your passions that battle inside you?You desire and you do not have; you murder and envy and you cannot obtain; you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask;you ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly, so you can spend it on your passions.Adulterers, do you not know that friendship with the world means hostility toward God? So whoever decides to be the world’s friend makes himself God’s enemy.Or do you think the scripture means nothing when it says,“ The spirit that God caused to live within us has an envious yearning”?

Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, being jealous of one another.

For if I boast somewhat more about our authority that the Lord gave us for building you up and not for tearing you down, I will not be ashamed of doing so.I do not want to seem as though I am trying to terrify you with my letters,

now I ask that when I am present I may not have to be bold with the confidence that( I expect) I will dare to use against some who consider us to be behaving according to human standards.

A perverse person spreads dissension, and a gossip separates the closest friends.

If anyone intends to quarrel about this, we have no other practice, nor do the churches of God.Now in giving the following instruction I do not praise you, because you come together not for the better but for the worse.For in the first place, when you come together as a church I hear there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.For there must in fact be divisions among you, so that those of you who are approved may be evident.

These people are grumblers and fault- finders who go wherever their desires lead them, and they give bombastic speeches, enchanting folks for their own gain.

We are also ready to punish every act of disobedience, whenever your obedience is complete.

I am afraid that when I come again, my God may humiliate me before you, and I will grieve for many of those who previously sinned and have not repented of the impurity, sexual immorality, and licentiousness that they have practiced.

For by speaking high- sounding but empty words they are able to entice, with fleshly desires and with debauchery, people who have just escaped from those who reside in error.

Did the word of God begin with you, or did it come to you alone?If anyone considers himself a prophet or spiritual person, he should acknowledge that what I write to you is the Lord’s command.

I said before when I was present the second time and now, though absent, I say again to those who sinned previously and to all the rest, that if I come again, I will not spare anyone,
