余勸一兄弟偕提多往、提多取爾財乎、吾眾非一心而步亦步乎、

我請提多就爾、又求一弟偕之、提多曾得爾財乎、我眾非同一心乎、非同一跡而行乎、○

我曾慫恿提多至爾處、並遣發一兄弟與之偕、提多曾佔爾便宜乎？吾儕豈非表裏如一、心跡雙清者乎。

I asked Titus to go to you. And I sent our brother with him. Titus didn’t take advantage of you, did he? Didn’t we walk in the same footsteps by the same Spirit?

I exhorted Titus, and I sent the brother with him. Did Titus take any advantage of you? Didn’t we walk in the same spirit? Didn’t we walk in the same steps?

So we urged Titus, just as he had earlier made a beginning, to bring also to completion this act of grace on your part.

And he is then also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised but who also follow in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.

Make room for us in your hearts. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have exploited no one.

Thanks be to God, who put into the heart of Titus the same concern I have for you.For Titus not only welcomed our appeal, but he is coming to you with much enthusiasm and on his own initiative.And we are sending along with him the brother who is praised by all the churches for his service to the gospel.What is more, he was chosen by the churches to accompany us as we carry the offering, which we administer in order to honor the Lord himself and to show our eagerness to help.We want to avoid any criticism of the way we administer this liberal gift.For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man.In addition, we are sending with them our brother who has often proved to us in many ways that he is zealous, and now even more so because of his great confidence in you.As for Titus, he is my partner and co-worker among you; as for our brothers, they are representatives of the churches and an honor to Christ.

Then Moses became very angry and said to the Lord,“ Do not accept their offering. I have not taken so much as a donkey from them, nor have I wronged any of them.”

Here I stand. Testify against me in the presence of the Lord and his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a bribe to make me shut my eyes? If I have done any of these things, I will make it right.”“ You have not cheated or oppressed us,” they replied.“ You have not taken anything from anyone’s hand.”

I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing.You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions.In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said:‘ It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and found that the Lord had opened a door for me,I still had no peace of mind, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia.

But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus,

I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you.I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare.For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel.

Moreover, from the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, until his thirty-second year— twelve years— neither I nor my brothers ate the food allotted to the governor.

To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
