吾為爾等靈魂之故、固不惜任何之犧牲、即犧牲本身、亦所甘心。豈吾之愛爾愈厚、而爾之愛我愈薄耶？

So I will very gladly spend for you everything I have and expend myself as well. If I love you more, will you love me less?

Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church:

Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

And whether we be afflicted,[ it is] for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted,[ it is] for your consolation and salvation.

Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that[ is] unprofitable for you.

Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.We[ are] fools for Christ’s sake, but ye[ are] wise in Christ; we[ are] weak, but ye[ are] strong; ye[ are] honourable, but we[ are] despised.Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world,[ and are] the offscouring of all things unto this day.I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn[ you].For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet[ have ye] not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you.

Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels.Now for a recompence in the same,( I speak as unto[ my] children,) be ye also enlarged.

I speak not[ this] to condemn[ you]: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with[ you].

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have[ it] more abundantly.I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.

Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:And I will come upon him while he[ is] weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that[ are] with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only:And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest[ is] as if all returned:[ so] all the people shall be in peace.And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.

Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also[ are] ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!

And[ the soul of] king David longed to go forth unto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.
