I, too, try to please everyone in everything I do. I don’t just do what is best for me; I do what is best for others so that many may be saved.

Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others.

Good people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren, but the sinner’s wealth passes to the godly.

“ Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds, the leaders of Israel. Give them this message from the Sovereign Lord: What sorrow awaits you shepherds who feed yourselves instead of your flocks. Shouldn’t shepherds feed their sheep?

Since I was so sure of your understanding and trust, I wanted to give you a double blessing by visiting you twice—

I am not writing these things to shame you, but to warn you as my beloved children.For even if you had ten thousand others to teach you about Christ, you have only one spiritual father. For I became your father in Christ Jesus when I preached the Good News to you.

Never once did we try to win you with flattery, as you well know. And God is our witness that we were not pretending to be your friends just to get your money!As for human praise, we have never sought it from you or anyone else.

“ I have never coveted anyone’s silver or gold or fine clothes.

Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly— not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God.Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example.And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never ending glory and honor.

And you know that we treated each of you as a father treats his own children.

After all, what gives us hope and joy, and what will be our proud reward and crown as we stand before our Lord Jesus when he returns? It is you!Yes, you are our pride and joy.

I am coming to visit you after I have been to Macedonia, for I am planning to travel through Macedonia.

But I will come— and soon— if the Lord lets me, and then I’ll find out whether these arrogant people just give pretentious speeches or whether they really have God’s power.

We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too.

This is the third time I am coming to visit you( and as the Scriptures say,“ The facts of every case must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses”).I have already warned those who had been sinning when I was there on my second visit. Now I again warn them and all others, just as I did before, that next time I will not spare them.

I don’t say this because I want a gift from you. Rather, I want you to receive a reward for your kindness.

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stay true to the Lord. I love you and long to see you, dear friends, for you are my joy and the crown I receive for my work.

If you are really hungry, eat at home so you won’t bring judgment upon yourselves when you meet together. I’ll give you instructions about the other matters after I arrive.

The seeds of good deeds become a tree of life; a wise person wins friends.
