To my shame I must say that we have been weak by comparison. But in whatever respect anyone else is bold— I am speaking in foolishness— I too am bold.

此我卑己而言、如嘗懦弱、但人所毅然、我亦毅然、斯言有若愚也、

余言若狂、有辱我者、謂我庸劣、如彼儼然、余亦儼然、

且我辱己而言、似我為懦弱者、然彼有所敢誇、我亦敢誇、我此言似狂矣、

吾之狂妄、尚不及此也。惟若有人對予信口雌黃、以予為愚昧、則恕我狂妄、吾亦儼然不敢多讓。

To my shame I admit that we were too weak for that! Whatever anyone else dares to boast about— I am speaking as a fool— I also dare to boast about.

For they say,“ His letters are weighty and strong, but his personal presence is unimpressive and his speech contemptible.”

What I am saying, I am not saying as the Lord would, but as in foolishness, in this confidence of boasting.

Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of Abraham? So am I.Are they servants of Christ?— I am speaking as if insane— I more so; in far more labors, in far more imprisonments, beaten times without number, often in danger of death.Five times I received from the Jews thirty nine lashes.Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent adrift at sea.I have been on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers at sea, dangers among false brothers;I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.

Now I, Paul, myself urge you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ— I who am meek when face to face with you, but bold toward you when absent!I ask that when I am present I need not be bold with the confidence with which I intend to be courageous against some, who regard us as if we walked according to the flesh.

For this reason I am writing these things while absent, so that when present I need not use severity, in accordance with the authority which the Lord gave me for building up and not for tearing down.

for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and take pride in Christ Jesus, and put no confidence in the flesh,although I myself could boast as having confidence even in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he is confident in the flesh, I have more reason:circumcised the eighth day, of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the Law, a Pharisee;as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to the righteousness which is in the Law, found blameless.
