To my shame, I must say, we were too weak for that! But whatever anyone else dares to boast of— I am speaking as a fool— I also dare to boast of that.

此我卑己而言、如嘗懦弱、但人所毅然、我亦毅然、斯言有若愚也、

余言若狂、有辱我者、謂我庸劣、如彼儼然、余亦儼然、

且我辱己而言、似我為懦弱者、然彼有所敢誇、我亦敢誇、我此言似狂矣、

吾之狂妄、尚不及此也。惟若有人對予信口雌黃、以予為愚昧、則恕我狂妄、吾亦儼然不敢多讓。

To my shame I admit that we were too weak for that! Whatever anyone else dares to boast about— I am speaking as a fool— I also dare to boast about.

I’m ashamed to have to say that I was too weak for that! Whatever anyone else dares to brag about, I also dare to brag about. I’m speaking like a fool!

I’m ashamed to say that we’ve been too“ weak” to do that! But whatever they dare to boast about— I’m talking like a fool again— I dare to boast about it, too.

I say this to our shame: We have been too weak for that! But in whatever anyone dares to boast— I am talking foolishly— I also dare:

I speak by way of disparagement, as though we had been weak. Yet whereinsoever any is bold( I speak in foolishness), I am bold also.

I say this to our shame: We have been weak. But in whatever anyone dares to boast— I am talking foolishly— I also dare:

I speak as concerning reproach, as though we had been weak. Howbeit whereinsoever any is bold,( I speak foolishly,) I am bold also.

( To my disgrace I must say that we were too weak for that!) But whatever anyone else dares to boast about( I am speaking foolishly), I also dare to boast about the same thing.

I speak by way of disparagement, as though we had been weak. Yet in whatever way anyone is bold( I speak in foolishness), I am bold also.

For they say,“ His letters are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.”

What I am saying with this boastful confidence, I say not as the Lord would but as a fool.

Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they offspring of Abraham? So am I.Are they servants of Christ? I am a better one— I am talking like a madman— with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless beatings, and often near death.Five times I received at the hands of the Jews the forty lashes less one.Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea;on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from robbers, danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers;in toil and hardship, through many a sleepless night, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.

I, Paul, myself entreat you, by the meekness and gentleness of Christ— I who am humble when face to face with you, but bold toward you when I am away!—I beg of you that when I am present I may not have to show boldness with such confidence as I count on showing against some who suspect us of walking according to the flesh.

For this reason I write these things while I am away from you, that when I come I may not have to be severe in my use of the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down.

For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh—though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more:circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee;as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless.
