What I am saying with this boastful confidence, I say not as the Lord would but as a fool.

此言、非主命也、乃若愚者自信而誇、

余今所言、非主命也、乃若狂而大詡、

今我所言、非按主命而言、乃似狂者、大膽自誇、

惟須預為聲明者、吾今之所言、非依主之道、乃一發心中之狂愚、故姑妄言之耳。

In this self-confident boasting I am not talking as the Lord would, but as a fool.

When I brag about myself like this, I’m not talking the way the Lord would. I’m talking like a fool.

Such boasting is not from the Lord, but I am acting like a fool.

What I am saying in this matter of boasting, I don’t speak as the Lord would, but as it were, foolishly.

What I am saying, I am not saying as the Lord would, but as in foolishness, in this confidence of boasting.

What I speak, I speak not according to the Lord, but as it were, foolishly, in this confidence of boasting.

That which I speak, I speak not after the Lord, but as in foolishness, in this confidence of glorying.

What I say in this matter of boasting, I don’t speak as the Lord would, but foolishly.

That which I speak, I speak[ it] not after the Lord, but as it were foolishly, in this confidence of boasting.

What I am saying with this boastful confidence I do not say the way the Lord would. Instead it is, as it were, foolishness.

To the rest I say( I, not the Lord) that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her.

For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh—though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more:circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee;as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless.

Otherwise, if some Macedonians come with me and find that you are not ready, we would be humiliated— to say nothing of you— for being so confident.

Now concerning the betrothed, I have no command from the Lord, but I give my judgment as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy.

Now as a concession, not a command, I say this.

Since many boast according to the flesh, I too will boast.For you gladly bear with fools, being wise yourselves!For you bear it if someone makes slaves of you, or devours you, or takes advantage of you, or puts on airs, or strikes you in the face.To my shame, I must say, we were too weak for that! But whatever anyone else dares to boast of— I am speaking as a fool— I also dare to boast of that.Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they offspring of Abraham? So am I.Are they servants of Christ? I am a better one— I am talking like a madman— with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless beatings, and often near death.Five times I received at the hands of the Jews the forty lashes less one.Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea;on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from robbers, danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers;in toil and hardship, through many a sleepless night, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.
