You are judging by appearances. If anyone is confident that they belong to Christ, they should consider again that we belong to Christ just as much as they do.

吾人豈復自薦乎？亦欲使爾等於吾人之誠、有所稱道、而對於一般只重外貌、不貴內心者、知所答覆耳。

爾為判斷、勿拘外表、宜據正義。』

彼為基督之臣僕乎？則恕我放肆、吾更是也。吾視若輩勞苦多矣、繫獄多次、受笞無數、且常處死地、屢遭不測、

倘有人自以為先知、或富於靈賦、則應知吾茲所書者、乃為主之命令也。

予非自由之人乎？予非宗徒乎？予豈未見吾主耶穌基督乎？爾曹之依主也、又非予之功績乎？

爾則屬於基督、而基督屬於天主。

夫爾等既屬基督即為亞伯漢之裔、亦即承恩諾之嗣子也。

試舉一例、爾中或云『我乃葆樂之人、』或云『我乃亞波羅之人、』或云『我乃基法之人、』或云『我乃基督之人。』

茲者我葆樂本人、欲憑基督之溫柔謙恭、有所求於爾焉。頗聞人言、予與爾相處、晤時則恭、暌時則踞。

耶穌曰：『爾曹希俗取容、矯義人前、而天主固洞悉爾心。應知人之所貴、正天主之所賤也。

作此言者、實為寓吾心中之基督。基督對爾、非屬柔弱無能；於爾之身、實操有大權；爾豈欲嘗試之乎？

蓋外表之猶太人、非真猶太人；而形軀之割禮、非真割禮。惟內心為猶太人、真為猶太人；心靈之割禮、真為割禮。蓋割禮在精神、而不在形式、在取悅於天主、而不在苟合於人耳。

凡彼所行、惟欲求知於人；廣其佩經、長其綴旒、

方今以身世自誇者多矣、吾亦欲一誇焉。

明告兄弟、吾所傳之福音、非淵源於人世；蓋吾既未受之於人、又非學而知之、惟憑耶穌基督之啟示而已。吾舊日在猶太教中之生活、固爾等所夙聞也。當時吾於天主之教會、迫辱摧殘、無所不用其極；

設若有人、向爾等宣佈另一基督、而非吾儕所宣佈之基督；另一聖神、而非爾等所接受之聖神；或另一福音、而非爾等所夙聞之福音；爾等亦能容納也！

惟此中亦各按其序：基督實為先薦之果、而信奉基督者之復活、則有待乎基督之重臨；

吾之狂誕、爾使之也。吾早應受爾等之保舉矣。吾固不足道也、然較諸聲望最隆之宗徒、亦何所欠缺乎？
