When people commend themselves, it doesn’t count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them.

but someone is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart by the Spirit and not by the written code. This person’s praise is not from people but from God.

For they loved praise from men more than praise from God.

All of a person’s ways seem right in his own opinion, but the LORD evaluates the motives.

But as God’s servants, we have commended ourselves in every way, with great endurance, in persecutions, in difficulties, in distresses,

Now we pray to God that you may not do anything wrong, not so that we may appear to have passed the test, but so that you may do what is right even if we may appear to have failed the test.

but I know you, that you do not have the love of God within you.I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me. If someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.How can you believe, if you accept praise from one another and don’t seek the praise that comes from the only God?

For the one who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by people.

The one who had received the five talents came and brought five more, saying,‘ Sir, you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’His master answered,‘ Well done, good and faithful slave! You have been faithful in a few things. I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master.’The one with the two talents also came and said,‘ Sir, you entrusted two talents to me. Enter into the joy of your master.’

Such trials show the proven character of your faith, which is much more valuable than gold– gold that is tested by fire, even though it is passing away– and will bring praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

“ Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man clearly attested to you by God with powerful deeds, wonders, and miraculous signs that God performed among you through him, just as you yourselves know–

Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? We don’t need letters of recommendation to you or from you as some other people do, do we?

Greet Apelles, who is approved in Christ. Greet those who belong to the household of Aristobulus.

We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to be proud of us, so that you may be able to answer those who take pride in outward appearance and not in what is in the heart.

For there must in fact be divisions among you, so that those of you who are approved may be evident.

Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who does not need to be ashamed, teaching the message of truth accurately.
