Some say,“ His letters sound important. They are powerful. But in person he doesn’t seem like much. And what he says doesn’t amount to anything.”

因为有人说：“他的信又沉重又厉害，及至见面，却是气貌不扬，言语粗俗的。”

因为有人说：“他信上的语气既严厉又强硬，他本人却软弱无能，言语粗俗。”

因为有人说：“他的信又严厉又强硬，他本人却其貌不扬，言语粗俗。”

因为有人说：“保罗的书信又严厉又强硬，但他亲身在的时候却是软弱的人，他的言语也被藐视。”

因為有人說：「他的信又沉重又厲害，及至見面，卻是氣貌不揚，言語粗俗的。」

因為有人說：「他信上的語氣既嚴厲又強硬，他本人卻軟弱無能，言語粗俗。」

因為有人說：「他信上的語氣既嚴厲又強硬，他本人卻軟弱無能，言語粗俗。」

因為有人說：「他信中的話有分量，很嚴厲，他本人卻軟弱無能，言語粗俗。」

因為有人說：“他的信又嚴厲又強硬，他本人卻其貌不揚，言語粗俗。”

因為有人說：「論他的書信倒有重量有魄力；及至身臨面對、卻是軟弱無力，說話又平淡可鄙」。

因為有人說：「保羅的書信又嚴厲又強硬，但他親身在的時候卻是軟弱的人，他的言語也被藐視。」

或謂我書嚴厲、晤對時則身柔言鄙、

有言我書嚴厲、及晤對時、身柔言鄙、

有人言、我書嚴厲、及至晤會時、身弱言陋、

頗聞人言：『彼之書札、雖雷厲風行；而彼之形軀、則柔弱無能、言語更無足輕重。』

For some say,“ His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing.”

For they say,“ His letters are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.”

For some say,“ Paul’s letters are demanding and forceful, but in person he is weak, and his speeches are worthless!”

For it is said,“ His letters are weighty and powerful, but his physical presence is weak and his public speaking amounts to nothing.”

For they say,“ His letters are weighty and strong, but his personal presence is unimpressive and his speech contemptible.”

“ For his letters,” they say,“ are weighty and powerful, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.”

For, His letters, they say, are weighty and strong; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.

For it is said,“ His letters are weighty and powerful, but his physical presence is weak, and his public speaking is despicable.”

For[ his] letters, say they,[ are] weighty and powerful; but[ his] bodily presence[ is] weak, and[ his] speech contemptible.

because some say,“ His letters are weighty and forceful, but his physical presence is weak and his speech is of no account.”

For,“ His letters”, they say,“ are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech is despised.”

Christ did not send me to baptize. He sent me to preach the good news. He commanded me not to preach with wisdom and fancy words. That would take all the power away from the cross of Christ.

Remember when I first preached the good news to you? Remember I did that because I was sick.And my sickness was hard on you. But you weren’t mean to me. You didn’t make fun of me. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God. You welcomed me as if I were Christ Jesus himself.

It’s true that I haven’t been trained as a speaker. But I do have knowledge. I’ve made that very clear to you in every way.

I will brag about a man like that. But I won’t brag about myself. I will brag only about how weak I am.Suppose I decide to brag. That would not make me a fool, because I would be telling the truth. But I don’t brag, so that no one will think more of me than they should. People should judge me by what I do and say.God has shown me amazing and wonderful things. People should not think more of me because of it. So I wouldn’t become proud of myself, I was given a problem. This problem caused pain in my body. It is a messenger from Satan to make me suffer.Three times I begged the Lord to take it away from me.But he said to me,“ My grace is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” So I am very happy to brag about how weak I am. Then Christ’s power can rest on me.

And this was the way it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I didn’t come with fancy words or human wisdom. I preached to you the truth about God’s love.My goal while I was with you was to talk about only one thing. And that was Jesus Christ and his death on the cross.When I came to you, I was weak and very afraid and trembling all over.I didn’t preach my message with clever and compelling words. Instead, my preaching showed the Holy Spirit’s power.

“ You are my Lord and King,” I said.“ I don’t know how to speak. I’m too young.”

Moses spoke to the Lord. He said,“ Lord, I’ve never been a good speaker. And I haven’t gotten any better since you spoke to me. I don’t speak very well at all.”

God wisely planned that the world would not know him through its own wisdom. It pleased God to use the foolish things we preach to save those who believe.

Christ is humble and free of pride. Because of this, I make my appeal to you. I, Paul, am the one you call“ shy” when I am face to face with you. But when I am away from you, you think I am“ bold” toward you.
